Matthew 26:41
Spirit is Willing, Flesh is Weak
41 The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
John 4:24
God is Spirit
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
Our Spirit is one thing and our flesh is another...Jesus makes that clear when He says the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak...When Jesus is questioned about good and goodness, He says only God is good...He doesn't include, it seems, Himself to be good...He also says He does not know the hour and day for the end of ages, only God does...Then He says that "God is Spirit", and we might conclude that God is not flesh...
I think all these verses are closely linked...We know Jesus was with God in the beginning (John 1:2)...Man is flesh, is weak and limited...Jesus does not know when He will return to earth, only the Father knows the hour and the day for His return...Jesus also says only God is good...Jesus has taken the form of a man (if it fair to call Him a man)...He must have taken on some of the fleshes weaknesses and limits...A finite and limited human mind can only understand a finite amount...He says only God is good, and doesn't include Himself...It maybe because He has taken on the flesh of a man and is not good, because of his earthly attributes...Some of His divine attributes may be difficult, if not impossible to retain when you are a man...Maybe God gave His Son only limited things while He was on earth...Jesus may had to give up some divinity and divine goodness to go from Spirit to flesh...And maybe because He has stepped out of time and eternity and into our time, that He is somehow limited in our limited dimensional earth...There is such a thing as divine attributes, the spirit, and the human attributes of flesh...Thus, we know humanity is one thing and divinity is another...
We can conclude from this is that our Spirit is stronger than our flesh...But maybe more importantly, we learn that even though Jesus does not know one hundred percent of everything -He makes it clear that God does...He also makes it clear that God is the only one in the whole heavens, earth, and universe that God is good...We know that God is spirit...God is Almighty...God knows all things...
