Mark 8:22-26
Jesus Heals a Blind Man
22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”
Jesus and His Disciples went to Bethsaida...Some people brought a blind man and they begged Jesus to touch the blind man, so he could see...But instead Jesus Himself takes the blind man by the hand and leads him out of Bethsaida...Outside the village Jesus put His hands on the blind man...Then He asks the blind one, "Do you see anything?"...The blind man looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”...The blind man could now see something and actually a miracle had happened...But things were still very blurry in the blind man's eyes...The man could not distinguish a tree from a man...But Jesus remains patient with the blind man...So once more Jesus put His hands on the man’s eyes...Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly...Trees no longer looked the same as men...He could easily see men and he could easily see trees and distinguish between the two...The man could now see but Jesus had taken two steps in this particular miracle, before the once blind man could see...The blind man's was not immediate and his seeing took some time and was done in two steps...Jesus cured the blindness...
Is there another lesson here?...Is there something in seeing Jesus and the Truth around us that takes time?...Does our faith need time to mature?...Do all of our prayers get answered with the first prayer?...Most, if not all, of Jesus' miracles takes one step and it is finished...But not this miracle...Here Jesus takes two steps to heal someone...Some believe that this is also a story about our Spiritual seeing of Jesus...After reading and getting to know about Him, we see some things in His teachings and about Him, but we may still be Spiritually Blind...We need more time and need to know more about Him before we can truly see Him...Seeing Him and having a strong faith in Him often takes time and patience...Even His Disciples needed three years to see who He was and is...
We often do not see things clearly at first...We need to be patient and persistent in our faith...Faith sometimes is a gradual process...It seems that often our Spiritual Vision is a process and a growing faith takes time and more effort...
