Mark 10:18
Only God is Good
18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone."
John 10:25-30
Jesus and the Father are One
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
Matthew 5:27-28
Thinking About Another Woman Lustfully is Adultery
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:43-48
Be Perfect as Your Heavenly Father is Perfect
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
John 8:58
Before Abraham was Born Jesus Existed
58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
We see to admire the great actor, the great athlete, the great CEO, or the great speaker who can go about their way and job and do something with great precision…We sometimes read about their greatness and study them to find out what made them who they are and how they do the things they do…If we admire them and the things they do, we often try to mimic them...And if we work hard, we can sometimes become very much like those men and their traits that we admire...
When Jesus told the rich young man, Only God is good, I do not think He was excluding Himself, by saying this Only God (is good)...I think He was thinking and calling Himself God...And, of course Jesus is right, Only God is Good and Perfect...But we also know that He and His Father are One...
There is no perfection in humanity...Or is there?...If there is or were such a thing that would be called the Rules of Humanity and one was wondering who might have written those rules, I think it might have been Jesus or His Father...And these rules would be old...I would say these Rules of Humanity were written before Abraham lived...And Jesus tells us He lived before Abraham was even born...If we try to mimic or follow Jesus or think what would Jesus do in each and every situation that we have, and then apply these Rules of Humanity as He applied them, we would find out that we would be a very, very good person...I have learned, and must say quickly learned that His Rules are not an easy thing to master or to even mimic...Because what I might call the Rules of Humanity, are a set of not only His words, His teachings, but also His morals...They also include His thinking...(And we learn we can sin in our thoughts...He says even to look at a woman lustfully, is considered adultery)...And then to make it even more difficult these Rules of Humanity are very much an action and deed thing...And what I mean by that is Jesus spoke the greatest words that have ever been spoken, and then backed these great words with the greatest of deeds and healings any single or collection of men has ever done...
Jesus has built a Kingdom, a Kingdom of God that shows us Perfection in Humanity, and what it will be like in this Kingdom, and in heaven...His Kingdom is now two thousand year old...How and why are His Rules so everlasting?...He shows us the potential of humanity and correctly followed each and every one of the Rules of Humanity...There was once Perfection in Humanity as HE walked the earth and taught, and His name is Jesus...
