The Collaborative Assessment Process:
1) Establish Norms
allows members of a team to be vulnerable
norms should be co-constructed so every member feels seen, heard, and safe
Norms should include honoring teacher's experiences and voices
2) Manage the Process
examining the design together by asking:
what are you noticing?
what do you recognize?
what are you wondering about?
what are you appreciating?
these question provide focus for the group
utilize a Learning Design Rubric and provide evidence with data
3) Create & Maintain Learning Partnerships
what was the role of student voice in the planning process?
what is the role of the teacher and are they actively seeking partnerships?
4) Learning Environments
how did you extend learning outside of the classroom walls?
5) Pedagogical Practices
does the success criteria align with Deep Learning standards?
Was the evidence of learning complete and varied?
how was feedback utilized for growth?
6) Leveraging Digital
How did technology tools or resources enhance learning?
Where does the technology use fall on SAMR?
How were the global competencies developed during the learning?
1) Use multiple methods or forms of assessment
align each assessment with learning goals to provide a more comprehensive snapshot of learning
2) Eliminate lengthy assessments such as final exams and midterms
assessments should be shorter, more frequent and varied
3) Allow student to self-assess and participate in peer review and revision
4) Adapt late work and zero policies
If the work was important enough to assign, the learning should be mandatory
Effective formative assessment guides differentiation and varied methods of displaying mastery that compliment student interests and goals.
