Be it ordained by the Township Council of the Township of Gloucester, in the County of Camden and State of New Jersey, as follows:

§6-1. Adoption of classes of positions; schedules.

The following classes of positions, duties of which are set forth as part if this ordinance by reference to the three (3) separate and distinct schedules² by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, are hereby created and adopted:

Schedule 1

A list of employees in the jurisdiction with their dates of last permanent appointment, salary and title; are their proposed status, title and divisional classification.

Schedule 2

Class specifications in alphabetical order, including definitions, examples of work, education and experience requirements, and knowledge and abilities.

Schedule 3

An alphabetical list of titles of full-time positions in the clas­sified service with proposed salary ranges and divisional classifications.

A schematic list of titles of full-time positions in the classified service with proposed salary ranges or grades.

A descending list of titles by proposed salary ranges or grades of full-time positions in the classified service.

An alphabetical list of titles of part-time positions in the clas­sified service with divisional classifications.

An alphabetical list of titles in the unclassified service with the statutory or other provisions placing the position in the unclassified service.

§6-2. Salary ranges.

The salary ranges specified in the attached schedules are hereby adopted as and for each and every class of position mentioned in said schedules.

§6-2.1 Appointment and Promotions

All applicants for appointment to or for promotion within any Fire Department within the Township of Gloucester, shall be qualified for appointment or promotion as required by law, ordinance and Civil Service rules and regulations. All applicants for appointment shall be residents of the Township of Gloucester and must maintain continuous residency within the Township of Gloucester from the announced closing date of the Department of Personnel examination up to and including the date of appointment.

§6-3. Repealer.

All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.

§6-4. When effective; filing with Clerk.

This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage and publica­tion according to law, and the aforesaid schedules shall be filed with the Clerk of the Township of Gloucester coincident with the passage of this ordinance.

Editor's Note: The question of whether or not the Township of Gloucester should adopt the provisions of the Civil Service Act of the State of New Jersey was submitted to the voters on November 2, 1971, and said adoption was duly approved and authorized by a majority of the voters.
