I think I'm going to use this page to talk through my thoughts for running our first Necromunda Campaign. We'll be using the standard Dominion campaign from the new rulebook with whatever modifications we come up with. The timelines will probably be pretty fluid though rather than sticking with the 3 week phases. We'd be lucky to get more than one or two games in in 3 weeks...
We're getting psyched to finally jump into the hives and explore Necromunda. The group has long played Mordheim, and have always been intrigued by Necromunda, but never taken the plunge. 3 of us had bought the Underhive box so it's been on the horizon, but we've never had enough impetus (or should I say our impetus has been drowned by other projects) to start one.
But the ball is finally rolling and picking up serious speed.
I thought I'd take on the role of Arbitrator, given I've got the updated rulebook and Gangs of the Underhive book. However I'm keen to be an active player as well, so my arbitratoryness will be minimal and probably most around keeping up momentum and recording results.
I bought a whole heap of TTCombat Industrial Hive kits a while back and had them sitting in a pile for a long time. Finally I decided to break them out and put them together. Luckily I undertook this back breaking process while on holiday and managed to keep the momentum going long enough to slap some paint on them. I wanted something bright and bold in colour requiring minimal effort (since I know if I take too long I'll get bored and move onto another project). I wanted everything to be super obvious as to what it was, so at a quick glance you could see the doors etc.
So I rummaged through my sprays and went with
Walls - Alien purple from Army Painter Spray
Doors - Mephiston Red Citadel Spray
Tanks etc - Caliban Green Citadel Spray
Shipping Containers - Ultramarine Blue Army Painter Spray.
With the base colours on I randomly sprayed them with Leadbelcher Citadel spray. Then stippled with a large brush dark brown, slowly adding in orange to get rust spots. Trying to add it quite thick so that there is some texture added with the paint, plus a little bit of sand dusted on throughout the process.
Its thick and bold and not overly detailed, but as the backdrop for models to play around I think it works fine. I think I'll come back later and put up some posters and grafitti, but I'm keen to get the bulk of it done before adding details.
So... I've now read the rulebook. Wow, this seems like Mordheim on steroids. So many amazing opportunities for cinematic moments and great storytelling. I'm excited, but slightly daunted. Like everything though, I'm sure it'll pull together ok once I've played a game or two. I'm really keen to both arbitrate and play, so I'll have to work out where that balance falls. But perhaps I'll lean more into the player and record keeper role, than full arbitrator (save that for the next one).
But from the initial read through I'm keen to run a campaign involving:
Territories
Sub Plots
Bounty Hunters
Alliances - although perhaps this could wait until a second game.
That might be enough (or too much) to start with.
Campaign Map
I've been looking for some interesting maps to use for the campaign and stumbled across this one below. Its a google maps overlay called 'Space Station.' I'm liking it so far, though it's not quite hitting the mark for me, it looks a bit too clean and contains street and suburb names which will take a bit of work. Though it would be fun to capture territories in the streets we drive around day to day.

Territories
For our first campaign, rather than randomly drawing, I thought it might be best if I went through and selected some that give a good variety, but aren't too complex or drive us to having to convert heaps of extra hangers on models.
I've elected:
Settlement (Generic)
Settlement (Generic)
Tech Bazaar (Van Saar)
Tunnels (Orlock)
Mine Workings (Orlock)
Gambling Den (Delaque)
Stinger Mould Sprawl (Escher)
Slag Furnace (Goliath)
Sludge Sea (Generic)
Drinking Hole (Delaque)
Smelting Works (Goliath)
Synth Still (Esher)
Collapsed Dome (Generic)
Bounties
I'd like to have a couple of consistent Bounty Hunters around. More characters that we get to know and also grow as the campaign continues. So I'm going to make a bunch of them, and allow anyone else who wants to. Then we'll pool them together and use them when the bounties start growing. I'm thinking of a table to roll against at the start of each game with modifiers depending on who in the battle has a price on their heads.
The Campaign Board
I'm a big fan of visual elements of games, so I'm super keen to convert up lots of hangers on, have heaps of terrain of all dimensions and represent bionics/modifications where I can. But the big thing I've been planning for this is a big Campaign Board. I want to represent each warband and model, show who's allied with whom, who's got a bounty of their head, and mark off kills etc. Storage of a beast like this will be a pain, but I'm sure I can find somewhere to hang it.
So the plans for this board are growing. I'm thinking the easiest thing to do is to attach card sleeves to the board in order to hold enough, then at least we can slide in extra things in front of cards to show bounties etc.
I'd like to get little stickers or stamps of each warband to mark kills on the ganger cards too. But for simplicity sake this might just end up being a pen mark in different colours.
Locations will also be up on the board, not sure if I want to keep them as cards, or sketch up a small map on a piece of paper and attach that, then have some way of marking up on that who owns what. I like the graffiti look to mark territory, so it could be good to try some paint pens and constantly mark on top of each other when we take it over.
Alliances are the next thing. I really like Goonhammer's idea of the Ol' Razzle Dazzle, and want to introduce alliances this way. So some chart marking off who each warband has razzled and who they've dazzled would be fun. But whether this is marked near the warbands, or in a separate space for the alliances themselves, I'm not sure.
Other Characters:
I'm planning to have a couple of fences in the area. It might be a bit too much book keeping and paperwork. But the idea was to have these two or three characters have a randomly determined list of available goods for sale at the end of each week. The list will be added to as new stock comes in and reduced as stock is bought. The prices will be reduced significantly, however I also plan to modify the stats of the weapons to perhaps make them a little bit less reliable perhaps. Also, given there is a fixed stock I'll allow the players to bid for equipment from here to add a level of character interaction between games. Perhaps having reputation help, or have a specific reputation with the fence based on previous dealings with them
