Happy New Year all, may 2022 be happier and healthier than 2021.
I'm not usually one for New Year's Resolutions, however a friend mentioned one he has made and it seemed like a pretty good way of going about things, so I'm gonna have a try at it.
The Problem: Over the last few years I've had a lot of big gaps between hobby time, this has meant by the time I sat back down at the bench I was bored of the last project and had already got excited about a new one. Not that I ever finished projects before this, it just got bad over the last few years.
The Resolution: I can only start a new project for every 2 I finish.
This is nice a neat. I still get to play with fun new things, but have to actually finish something before then.
However, this raises the next question. What is a finished project?
I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and state a project being an army, as I'll kill all enthusiasm early and probably end up not sticking to it. So I'll try and break it down into smaller bite-size pieces. These being units within an army or similar. I'm free to jump around between projects, though doing so will slow it all down.
The above chart is tracking my progress in my 'current' projects. I've got a lot more projects, but there are the current ones that I might jump onto. The % is pretty arbitrary, I set out the sub-projects (see below) and assign a percent complete to it, then average all of those into my Project Percentage. Nothing fancy or smart at all, but good enough.
I've got a separate section where I'll put up all my 'wishlist' projects for new stuff (i.e. stuff I haven't bought yet). From here, when I finish my 2 projects I get to pick one to work on.
*An example of my current spreadsheet of projects
I've kept this amongst my Overview spreadsheet, which makes for somewhat scary reading... Within it I've listed pretty much everything I've got, with a separate tab for each army and terrain to try and keep an eye on where they are all at. I try and update it when something else gets bought or painted. Sometimes I play around with the Interest Levels, though this has no impact on things, just fun to play with. Again the percentages in these are pretty rough but are nice to see relatively.
21/11/23 - UPDATE
hahahaha, such a hopeful soul. I didn't even come close to following the above and instead have started lots of projects. 30k (Ultramarines, Word Bearers, White Scars, Dark Angels and warcry.....)
Oooops......
