Beneath waves they sway,
Mermaids weave dreams in coral halls,
Whispers of the sea.Β
π Geography and Weather
This Duchy exists under the water, with the main cities existing on ocean beds and coral reefs. There are storms on the ocean's surface (near the Summer Duchy mostly) and currents and rips under the water. The water near the surface is comfortably cool, whereas the water in the deep is very cold.
The ocean is vast, and its geography and topography unique. There are towns in kelp forests, coral reefs, ancient underwater ruins, and rock pools. There is even rumoured to be a city in the deep deep ocean thousands of metres under the sea.
π Architecture
Buildings in the towns and villages of the Underwater Duchy are Mediterranean in style. This means round shapes, arches, terracotta tiled roofs, and large windows. They use sandstone and bedrock as building materials and may paint parts of the building blue, or keep it white or tan coloured. They are proud of their water flora, and large, well kept gardens are a sign of culture and class.Β
The Tidal Court in the City of Lampas is a large, Mediterranean (Spanish style castle) Fort. It boasts beautiful, expansive Castle gardens and grounds to swim leisurely in - jellyfish gardens, coral gardens, kelp gardens, and seashell gardens.
π Clothing
Fishfolk wear minimal clothing, mostly consisting of fishnet croquet shawls and shirts adorned with seashells, crab claws, pearls, etc. Jewelry is a sign of high social status. For formal occasions or rituals, cropped vests and blazers bedazzled with pearls and sea shells and gold charms may be worn (like Spanish bullfighting outfits).Β
They are a martial society and also wear plenty of armour made from crustaceans, shells, coral and driftwood.
π Races
Playable Races: Fishfolk
Due to this Duchy being underwater, really only Fishfolk live here. Selkies occasionally pass through to visit or trade.
π Wildlife
Fish, sharks, crustaceans, whales, seals, turtles, penguins, jellyfish, rays, sea horses - all manner of marine life.
π Travel
Citizens ride giant seahorses or eels. They also have manta rays or whale shark wagons and something called an Octoboat - an Octopus that carries Fishfolk to the surface and back down to Io by holding a great big basket with seats.Β

Lampas β Capital City of the Underwater Duchy and the home of the Tidal Court. It rests on the side of a rocky underwater mountain and part of it is in the mountain itself.
Seastone Academy β A magic and martial school (like a Defense Academy) for young Fishfolk. Attendance is mandatory for 1 year.
Neptuneβs β A famous restaurant.
Io β A beautiful bustling city in a large coral reef. This is a trade center and more easily accessible by land creatures.
The Drowned City β A ruined, forsaken city half underwater and half above water. No one goes there and comes back alive.
Iago β A city hidden amongst a vast kelp forest.
Sense β A city deep in the ocean, situated amongst the ruins of an ancient city. Only deep-sea Fishfolk live here.
Velasco β Small town near the Summer Duchy coast.
Cradle - A community nestled within the heart of a coral reef, with branches of βtreesβ surrounding the perimeter like an embrace. The ecosystem of the location attracts many scholars, namely herbalists and botanists who value the access to flora and fauna for their research.
Spire - Hidden deep in the sea, between tall and towering rock formations, where the pressure leaves you feeling breathless and dizzyβ¦ There is a town said to have rare ore meant to be traded with passing travelers and merchants. A certain witchβs coven is attempting to rise in prominence, though few and far speak kindly of them.
Because the ocean is vast and dangerous, most towns and cities are clumped together.
