In order to run a group with a positive culture and consistent lore, there are a few rules we ask you to adhere to. When you join the group, you agree to follow these rules.
If you violate the rules, you may be warned, suspended, or kicked from the group - the consequences being relative to the scale of the violation. But don’t worry - the rules are simple and if you use kindness and commonsense you won’t have any issues.
If you have questions or concerns simply contact Isi (isi.a) on Discord.
General Information
We are based on Discord with a public facing website and DeviantArt page. If you use dA, please feel free to submit to the group there.
We are always open for new members and applications. If you're kind and creative we'd love to have you!
The group is actively being updated. Story chapter releases are regular but there isn't a set schedule.
There is no minimum skill level requirement for your art or literary work. Show up as you are and have fun!
As of July 2024, there are 5 story chapters released (15 quests), 36 discord members and 39 citizens in the group.
🍄 Member Conduct
Be kind and respectful to all members regardless of your personal feelings.
We have 0 tolerance policy for drama - any abuse, guilt-tripping, gossiping, copying, spamming etc will result in that person being sent a message and removed from the group.
Tracing or copying artwork or designs is not allowed. We do not allow AI artwork and you may not use ChatGPT to write your literary submissions.
No bigotry. We are open minded and left leaning. If you are not, this group is probably not the best fit for you.
Ask before you portray another person’s character.
Mature content is allowed, but please use spoiler tags and filters and give a clear, visible warning in the description as to the nature and severity of the mature content.
Please respect the group by learning the lore and creating characters and quest art that make sense in the world.
The concept of the world of Folkland is copyright content belonging to Isi (isi.a/isi-a) on Discord and Deviantart.
If you choose to leave the group, please re-design your character to the extent that they are not recognisable as belonging to group lore.
The server design and set up, as well as the design of the records and general visual theme of the group is also copyrighted content belonging to Isi.
Please feel free to offer feedback and suggestions to improve the group!
Some of the group is still a work in progress. If a change is made and it affects your character/s - such as a lore change for their race or a change in ability for their subclass and you're not happy, please reach out to Isi. You will be allowed to change class or update your design.
Members manage their own character logs and keep track of their own currency and rewards. There is a level of trust involved here, but your logs will be audited when you request to buy stats or level up, so please keep yourself honest.
If there's someone in the group making your life hard and you need some backup, please let Isi know.
🍄 Folkland Lore
Folkland is set in a high fantasy realm where swords and sorcery are commonplace. It is roughly set in a European medieval time period, but technology is slightly more advanced due to the abundance of magic.
Please visit The World page for more information on lore.
Folkland has its own unique culture, mythology, history and technology. It takes inspiration from European fairy mythology (i.e. the existence of selkies) but the individual lore of these races are unique to this group.
Your character must be from this world. They cannot be a traveler from another world, and they cannot be human. They must be a fae.
Please take Folkland’s world history and culture into account when creating a character. We would expect them to fit into the lore, not be an exception.
Members are prohibited from inventing World Events, Enemies, or group NPC’s.
Players are encouraged to incorporate elements of Folkland's history and culture into their character's backstory, helping to integrate them more deeply into the world.
Please take note of Folkland's level of technological and social advancement. This is a unique but ancient magical world so we don't have things like biker tattoos and microwaves.
Names should generally be European in origin. Refer to the race record and world guide for specific differences in names across Duchies (you may like to give your winter Fae a russian name, and your Autumn fae a more Scandi name).
🍄 Quest Art
Folkland has art prompts called Quests that grant in-game currency and experience for your player. There are certain expectations for the effort and quality of Quest art, for them to be eligible for rewards.
Quest artwork must be clean, fully finished (no sketches or messy WIPS) and have a basic background (indications of a setting).
The reward for Quest Art is "fairy gold" (FG). 💰
Submission Standards
They must have at least flat coloring. If they are monochromatic they will need to have shading.
Backgrounds need to indicate a location or setting at a minimum. They cannot be one colour or plain white or only floating elements/props. If you have something stylistic in mind for a background and are not sure it will be eligible, please reach out to an admin.
The more basic the background, the more we expect a fullbody of your character to be visible.
That being said, the expectation for backgrounds will match your skill level. If you're really struggling to draw backgrounds, reach out to Isi and we'll talk about how you can meet submission standards.
Characters must be visible from "bust-up" at a minimum.
Your character must be clearly visible in the artwork.
Any media is allowed.
Please submit your quest artwork to the artwork channel in the Discord, or the Quest gallery in the DeviantArt group.
Want to share a WIP for a quest or a character design idea? We want to see it! Submit your WIPs to the WIP channel in the Discord.
Fairy Gold
Each quest will list an amount of fairy gold as the reward.
Usually it is 100 FG, but one quest in each chapter will merit a double reward of 200 fairy gold.
Multi-Character Quests
Quests that depict multiple roleplay characters that you do not own will get a bonus +25 FG per character.
Roleplay character refers to an approved and canon character that belongs to another member and has been added to the census.
NPCs such as your characters family, or quest characters like Jacques, do not net a bonus reward.
RPCs must be depicted at least bust-up and quests must follow the submission standards as per usual.
For example: Isi draws a quest with Perenelle (her character) and Perenelle's friend Saoirse (elephunke's character). On top of the standard reward, she gets a bonus +25 FG for including Saoirse.
For example: Isi draws a quest depicting Perenelle, Saorise, Pwyll and Willow. Because she has drawn 3 other RPCs that aren't her own, she gets +25 FG each = +75 FG on top of the standard reward.
Once per chapter, you may depict up to three of your own RPCs together in a quest, and get the same full reward for each character. This is the standard reward of 100 or 200 FG - no added bonus on top.
This is to make it slightly easier to get quests done and get rewards if you have quite a few characters.
For example: Isi draws her RPCs Perenelle, Tove, and Juni together in a quest. The quest reward is listed as 100 FG. Her characters get 100 FG each for this quest.
Collaborations
Collabs are allowed and encouraged, but finished artwork must have 1 character per participant, shading, and a full background. All participants will receive the full quest reward for participating in a collab. Work must be distributed evenly between the participants. For example:
Member One will sketch and line, Member Two will colour and shade. OR
Member One will sketch, Member Two will line, Member One will flat colour, Member Two will shade.
Literary Submissions
Literary submissions are allowed and encouraged. They must have 750 words minimum and be checked for correct grammar and spelling.
Literary collabs are allowed. They must have 2000 words minimum and adhere to the same quality standards for correct grammar and spelling.
If you're using an RP for your literary submission, please make sure to format it neatly and include some descriptive language, not just dialogue. Basically, don't copy + paste an RP.
Please submit your written quests to the stories channel in the Discord.
Examples of quest art:
🍄 Non-Quest Art
Non Quest Art is encouraged and has much looser standards for acceptance.
Non Quest Art is any art drawn that is either not to quest art standards or unrelated to a quest prompt. For example:
finished sketches (not a wip) or sketch pages
icons
chibis
headshots
art with no background
finished, polished art that is unrelated to a quest
Non Quest Art is eligible for crystals as a reward. Crystals are rare monetary tokens different to fairy gold that are the only form of currency that some Folkland vendors will accept, so it is definitely still worth it to draw non Quest Art to gain these unique tokens!
If it is polished to Quest Art Standards and depicts 1-2 characters, the reward is 3 crystals.
If it is polished to Quest Art Standards and depicts 3-7 characters, the reward is 5 crystals.
If it is polished to Quest Art Standards and depicts 8+ characters, the reward is 8 crystals.
If it is not to Quest Art standards and depicts 1-2 characters, the reward is 1 crystal.
If it is not to Quest Art standards and depicts 3-7 characters, the reward is 2 crystals.
If it is not to Quest Art Standards and depicts 8+ characters, the reward is 4 crystals.

🍄 What Is Not Allowed
Tracing and copying is not allowed.
AI art is not allowed.
Art drawn by someone else is not allowed for Quest Art and will not incur any monetary reward regardless. They can still be submitted to our gallery though.
Bases are not allowed. You can create your own character bases for design missions though.
If a design mission is drawn by someone else, you will not receive a monetary reward for that Quest.
🍄 Character Slots
⚠️ All Members start with 3 free character slots. ⚠️
Additional characters are unlocked by completing Quests! Every 5 quests completed, you get an additional character slot.
If you have completed 5 quests total across all your characters, you unlock a 4th character slot.
If you have completed 10 quests total across all your characters, you unlock a 5th character slot.
If you have completed 15 quests total across all your characters, you unlock a 6th character slot.
And so on and so forth.
One of our wonderful members has created a quest tracker to count character slots for all the members.
Character Information
You can create as many characters as you want of the same race (your slots permitting, of course).
Some races do not have bloodlines and familial ties because some fae are not born, rather they are created out of magic. Please check the Race pages for more information.
For races that do have blood family ties, you can create siblings for your existing characters.
The Day and Night Duchies are not open for character creation just yet! They will be officially opened December 2024.
All new characters start at level Sprout (Level 1) and have 10 base starting stats +1 racial bonus (you should have 11 total).
Members are encouraged to show off their character design ideas in the WIP channel in the Discord. You don't have to have a character slot available to sketch/design your 'planned' characters - but please keep art of them in the WIP channel and remember you're not entitled to participate in quests and the like until they have been approved.
Non-Playable Characters
NPC’s are Non-Playable-Characters such as teachers, mentors, family members, childhood friends, townsfolk etc that may have interacted with your character in the past to help form their backstory, or who your character has a current relationship with.
Reminder: some races will not have blood-related family members due the fae children being created out of magic rather than being born. Please refer to individual Race Records for more information.
The vast majority of NPC’s belong to the group and are not to be roleplayed by Players. If your character would like to interact with an existing NPC or create a non-familial NPC (a World NPC), please reach out to an admin to plan this. As the world of Folkland develops, we welcome players wanting to assist in this process by helping flesh out towns with NPCs.
For races that do give birth to their children, players can design their family. Please make sure they adhere to race rules.
🍄 Activity Requirements
There are no minimum activity requirements for this group. Be as active and social as you'd like. If you like the art side more, focus on quest art. If you like the social side more, focus on bonds and RP. I will never kick anyone for being inactive or lurking - this group is designed to be full time worker/injured wrists/mental health hole friendly.
We have people in the group at the moment who haven't created a character and just stick around to enjoy the vibe and chat to the others in our small community. This is totally fine and is honestly really nice. If you're just curious and want to look at the art that isn't submitted to DA, you're very welcome to join and lurk. But people will say hello to you. :)
If you have any questions, please reach out to Isi in our Discord server by posting in the helpdesk channel or private message Isi.
