🍄 Overview
Your Critter can be from the Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter Duchy.Â
Critters are small to medium animal fae with full consciousness and intelligence. They walk on their hind legs, wear clothing, and can speak Fae fluently. They are an incredibly intelligent race and are well organized and industrious.
Because of their intelligent nature, Critters are often Court administrators, tinkerers, business owners, and farmers. They are a peaceful species, but do not underestimate them!
They live in burrows, caves or in tree houses that are extremely tidy and well looked after - think a hobbit hole. Flower Boxes on the windowsill, a handmade letter box and antique brass knocker for the front door that's probably been passed down through the family.
🍄 Appearance
Critters are literally small to medium sized woodland animals. They can be mice, chipmunk, foxes, martins, otters, wolves, squirrels, hedgehogs, badgers, racoons, rabbits, stoats, moles, bears, cats, dogs, frogs and toads.
As mentioned, they walk on their hind legs but can also go on all fours when they need to go incredibly fast. They wear medieval clothing.

Design Guidelines
Most critters have black eyes. Wolves and foxes can have yellow or brown eyes. They have large irises and very little sclera visible, just like an animal.
As they are animals, Critters do not have naturally defined muscles the way a humanoid would. They can be thinner and rangier, or bulkier. They can be thick and fluffy or have sleeker fur.
Mice, mole, chipmunk and hedgehog Critters are around 1 foot tall.
Squirrels, foxes, martins, stoats, otters, badgers, raccoons, and rabbit Critters are around 2 feet tall.
Bear and wolf Critters are around 3 feet tall.
They do not have tattoos but can have ear piercings.

Clothing
Critters wear clothing in classic high fantasy styles. They often wear pants, but it isn’t considered weird if they don’t!
Rough cotton, felt, and studded leather are common.
More martial Critters may even wear steel armour and/or chainmail.
They always wear natural colours like greens and browns, with yellow or purple accents.
Tunics, leather pants, cloaks and hoods are common.
Female critters will wear medieval dresses, tunics, and cowls.
They may adorn outfits with leather satchels, belts, and buckles. They don’t wear jewelery or other decorative elements really - they are pretty practical.
🍄 Birth, Life and Death
Birth
Critters give birth to live young and have large litters of 6-10 children.Â
Life
Critters have relatively short lifespans compared to other Fae, unfortunately. They can live to be up to 50-60 years old. Because of this, they mature very quickly. They are considered fully grown at around 4 years of age.Â
Death
When Critters age, they form grey or white streaks in their fur, may become skinnier and frailer, and their fur will become more prone to matting.
They bury their dead in Earthen graves alongside other Fae. They have simple stone tombstones like humans.
🍄 Critter Customs & Culture
Your Critter will receive a +1 to their INTELLIGENCE stat as a race bonus, as they are incredibly intelligent and well spoken.Â
Personality Traits
Critters are well spoken, intelligent, hard-working, quick witted, and scholarly.
They are an eloquent and respectful race, and will be polite to everyone they meet.
However, Critters can be ambitious, greedy, and backstabbing at worst. They can be self interested.
Your Critter should have a few of these traits but doesn’t have to have all of them. Please feel free to put a unique spin on it.Â
Romance, Marriage and Offspring
Romance
Critters value monogamy and seem to pair for life. Interracial relationships are very taboo. Same sex relationships are fine.Â
Marriage
Critters marry similarly to Stonefolk, by exchanching vows in a formal ceremony, while wearing white robes.Â
Offspring
Critters give birth to live young. Families tend to be very large (6-10) for smaller animal types (mice, rabbits etc) and 3-4 young for larger types like Wolves and Bears.
Its uncommon for Critters to adopt young from other races, but not unheard of. As long as they can fit into the burrow.
Miscellaneous
Women tend to go into the adventuring trade less. There is more of an emphasis on them raising young and running a household, due to such large families.
They enjoy all classic fae foods (cakes, mead, milk, honey), as well as all manner of cooked dishes stolen from human recipes. Human dishes can sometimes be a bit rich, so Critters will fall back to fruit, vegetables, grains, and legumes.
