š Overview
Your Stonefolk can be from the Spring, Autumn, Summer, Winter or Darkwood Duchy.Ā
The Stonefolk are a race of humanoid fae made from precious gemstones. Their skin is the texture and colour of vibrant stones and crystals.
The stonefolk are hardy and industrious miners and smiths. Strong and clever, this race has made their living mining for precious gems and metals, and forging these materials into weapons and armour. They are a creative and hardworking race who like to work with their hands.
Stonefolk are common and live in major cities as well as smaller towns and hamlets. They are spread out across the Realm and found in every Duchy (aside from Underwater). The Darkwood Stonefolk are light-blind and do not come out of their caves, so they aren't playable.
They forge the porcelain and gold armour for the High Fae!
The legend is that the stonefolk used to be elves. They were greedy for the riches of the Earth and delved too deeply into the mines, hurting the mountains and the surrounding forests by over-mining. Morrigan punished their avarice by turning their bodies into the very gems they sought.
š Appearance
As mentioned, a Stonefolkās design is based on a gem, and their skin is made out of these beautiful, precious gemstones.Ā

Design Guidelines
They have short to medium length hair. Their hair is normal hair texture, not made of gemstone. Their hair is almost always tied back into braids or ponytails with leather straps. It should be out of their face and practical.
You can take inspiration from Celtic hairstyles.
Their clothing is practical and features armour heavily.
They tend to wear dark clothing to contrast against their bright skin.
They often have dark eyes. Brown is common.
A Stonefolkās skin colouring is as varied as the types of gems they are based on. Their skin is always smooth but incredibly interesting in colour and design - marbled, cloudy, or glittering depending on their gem type.
Their hair can be any colour but should complement their skin. Light, pastel colours are very common (as is white).
Darkwood Stonefolk have spent most of their lives deep within dimly lit mines and have some 'light blindness' - their irises are glassy and their sclera black. But they can see above ground fine (eventually).
Stonefolk Adoptables
Clothing
Stonefolk attire is practical and offers protection for their stone skin.
Armour is a huge component of their outfit and should be dark leather or studded leather, or steel (no iron!).
Their armour has celtic knot designs engraved into it.
They should be wearing a medium amount of armour at minimum (at least a breastplate and either bracers or greaves.
They are modest people and will layer clothing to cover up delicate areas.
They wear practical, unisex clothing. Women rarely wear dresses, preferring a tunic and pants.
Gingham and rough cottons in dark, desaturated colours are common fabrics.
Just to reiterate, they wear mostly dark clothing (black and browns) to contrast against their light and colourful skin.
š Birth, Life and Death
Birth
Stonefolk are not born, rather they are āminedā from magical mountains and caverns. Miners will find a geode in the walls of caves, with a gemstone baby curled up inside, sleeping. They carefully extract the baby and bring it back to the Stonefolk communities.
They age at the same rate as humans. When they get older they appear to be more cloudy, scratched and scuffed. Cracks and lines will form, producing the effects of wrinkles. Men may crow scraggly beards and whiskery eyebrows. Hair will turn grey.
Life
Stonefolk can live to be up to 100 years old.Ā
Death
Stonefolk are buried in tombs in the Earth, alongside riches and handmade crafts from their communities.
š Stonefolk Customs & Culture
Your Stonefolk will receive a +1 to their FORTITUDE stat as a race bonus, as they can withstand practically any environment and are hardy.Ā
Personality Traits
Stonefolk are honest, cheery folk. They mean well and work hard and have built a reputation for being dependable and trustworthy.
Some of them may be a little gruff and brisk, but they just donāt have the patience for the whimsical and tricksy nature of races like High Fae, Fairies, and Wildlings.
They'd rather get down to work rather than talk about something all day (which is why you won't find Stonefolk in the Courts). They have an excellent relationship with the working class, house Fae such as Brownies, Sprites, Gnomes, and Trolls.
They enjoy their mead and can get a little loud and rowdy at parties.
Your Stonefolk should have a few of these traits but doesnāt have to have all of them. Please feel free to put a unique spin on it.
Romance, Marriage and Offspring
Romance
Stonefolk society places no pressures on child bearing or building families, as Stonefolk young are mined rather than born. That being said, monogamy seems to be a common endgame for this folk.
Same sex relationships are fine, as is interracial relationships.
Marriage
That being said, monogamy seems to be a common endgame for this folk. They get married in traditional ceremonies wearing white with a big party at the end. They wear traditional celtic gown and exchange vows.Ā
Offspring
Due to the difficulty of excavating young, when couples are ready to start a family, they are usually only lucky enough to find one Stonefolk young to raise. They are very open to adopting from other races.Ā
Miscellaneous
They love meat and are known to eat a lot (do they even have organs?). And they enjoy their mead.
They can bleed when really seriously injured or stabbed deep. When hit, usually their skin can shatter (shards flying off) a bit or become scuffed, their skin getting scratched up and cloudy like a messed up gem. Further injuries cause bruising and blood to come from somewhere deep inside under the thick layer of stone skin. Itās like the stone starts to lose substance and become squishier and fleshier the deeper you go
They have no natural body heat. They arenāt bothered by the weather, and thatās why theyāre comfortable in any duchy. And deep within a mine.
