Wildlings

🍄 Overview

Wildlings are humanoid Fae crossed with animals. They have legs, claws, ears, tails and eyes of their animal of inspiration. For Wildlings with hooves, they can walk on two legs like a Satyr, or four legs like a Centaur.

Wildlings came from the wildnerness of the Fae Realm, but they often migrate into towns and larger communities. Many of them work on farms or do other kinds of physical labour due to their natural strength and speed.

🍄 Appearance

A Wildlings appearance is a combination of human and animal attributes. The amount of animal attribute varies from wildling to wildling. They often have hairy arms and legs, claws or hooves, animal horns and ears, etc. 

Design Guidelines

• They often decorate their hair with flowers, flower wreaths, or laurels.

• Their hair can be short to medium in length and is always very curly.

• They have human skin tones.

• Their hair colour should be natural and match their animal type (it can be dual tone).

• They have digitigrade legs. They can also have 4 legs like a centaur.

• They can have ear or nose piercings.

• They cannot have tattoos.

• They can have lots of scars and lots of body hair.

Wildling Adoptables

Clothing

• They wear animal pelts, fur, studded leather armour and chainmail.

• They can wear fabric of any colour and texture and like fabric embroidered with gold.

• They are immodest and don’t mind showing some skin.

• They can wrap chests or limbs with brown cloth wrappings.

• They can wear simple practical workwear such as a tunic and pants, or more elaborate vests with golden buttons etc. It depends on whether your wildling lives in a wealthy city or a more modest village.

🍄 Birth, Life and Death

Birth

Wildlings give birth to live young and tend to have very large families (6-8 children). The children will take after the animal type of one parent, not a mix of both (tho they may inherent colouring, eye colour or hair textures etc from the other parent).

They are very open to adoption, of their own race or any other.

They are pregnant for around 6-12 months.

Life

A Wildlings lifespan is 80-90 years. 

Death

Wildlings age much like humans do - their hair grows white, they lose physical substance and may develop patches in their fur, and form wrinkles and age spots.

When Wildlings die, they are buried in the ground like humans and have simple tombstones. It is considered bad taste to bury a wildling in a city, it is much better to bury them out in the wilderness so they can 'return home' so to speak.

Bodies are wreathed in vine leaves and laid to rest with many flowers. They may be buried with pelts and furs, and wooden trinkets made by the family. They are not buried with any jewelry or golden ornaments, this is considered tacky. The body goes into the earth naked with only hand made, sentimental items to take with them to the afterlife.

Personality Traits

• Wildlings are compassionate and friendly natured. They are pretty laid back and can be a bit dim witted. They aren’t really ambitious, and it seems their main priority in life is being helpful and making friends.

• Wildlings are good natured and generally non judgemental. They are loyal and make friends for life.

• Sometimes their low intelligence gets them into trouble - they are the sort of Fae that would accidentally steal something thinking that it’s a free sample.

Your Wildling should have a few of these traits but doesn’t have to have all of them. Please feel free to put a unique spin on it.

Romance, Marriage and Offspring

Romance

Wildlings are romantic and have big hearts. They love love, and can be in same sex or inter-racial relationships. 

Marriage

Wildlings marry for love, and have big wedding ceremonies where they dress in white, exchange leather bands and do lots of feasting and dancing. 

Offspring

Wildlings give birth to live young, and as mentioned, the child takes after the animal type of one of the parents (not mixed-breed). They are certainly open to adopting from their own race or other ones.

Miscellaneous

• They love all Fae food, including newer human recipes. They tend to eat and drink a lot. The amount they can hold their liquor can vary.
