Long ago, Fairies thought it would be very funny to travel to the Mortal Realm and stir things up a bit for Mankind. And it was very funny indeed – for nearly 4000 years, the Fae travelled between Folkland and the Mortal Realm and meddled in the lives of humanity.
But then, along came the rise of Christianity, and the Fae found they had outlasted their welcome in a world that wasn’t worshipping Nature anymore, but rather an all-powerful God. Then along came industry, and machines that tore up their mounds, hills and hollows, destroying the natural world on Earth and the powers it provided the Fae.
So the Fae returned to their beautiful and wild homeland, and closed off all portals to the Mortal Realm for good. They vowed to protect the natural world of Folkland, and not let it befall the same fate as the Mortal Realm.
It’s been roughly 400 years since that exodus, during which the Fae have enthusiastically tended to their own civilization, borrowing aspects of human culture they brought back with them. Folkland has been largely at peace since then (petty court politics notwithstanding) and has entered a Great Age of Fairies.
However, something from the past will return and threaten the fate of the Realm.
Welcome to Folkland.
It’ll be needing heroes real soon, and luckily, I think I know a guy…
Chapter One, Quest One
Where It All Started
Who are you? What have you been doing up until this point? Where do you live?
Draw or write about your character’s everyday life at this point in their life.
Reward: 200 fairy gold 💰
You are going about your business one day when a harassed looking messenger fairy approaches you with a delivery.
“I don’t care that you weren’t expecting a package – just take it! I’ve been flying non-stop since yesterday with this blasted thing on my back!” The fairy says.
“That’s the last time I take an express order from – er, nevermind. Just take it, will ya?”
They hand you a long, fancy looking scroll sealed with leather and red wax. As you open it, feeling perplexed, a golden signet ring falls into your hand. It has a sigil of a sword crossed with a wand on it. You read the letter.
Salutations my dear reader, wherever this letter may find you.
You may not have heard of me, but I have heard of you.
In times past, before the conjunction of the Mortal and Fae realms, the Guild of Heroes protected Folkland from internal and external threats.
We have not been needed for centuries, but dark forces are on the move, and it is clear the Guild must be formed once again.
If you love this beautiful home of ours, if you believe in our sacred duty to protect the natural world, and if you want to uphold our vow to Rhiannon and Morrigan (blessings to the goddesses), then please, read on.
I hereby formally invite you to join the Guild of Heroes as a recruit.
If you accept, please sign your true name on the line below with any of the following:*
Blood (your own, please)
Morning Dew
Starlight
Pixie dust
Signed:

Please make your way to the capital city of the Spring Court, Robellia, by the eve of the Spring Solstice. The city will be in an uproar preparing for the celebrations, but there should be plenty of carriages headed in that direction from all over the realm. Travel allowance has been provided.
Await further instructions from us there.
Yours faithfully,
The Sparrow
Guildmaster
The Guild of Heroes
*All signatures should be considered a formally binding fairy promise. The Guild of Heroes and its sponsors are not responsible for any hexes, curses, or jinxes that may befall a Fae that breaks their contract.
Chapter One, Quest Two
The Letter
Cripes - what an odd letter! Well… what do you think? The letter seems legitimate, after all it as an official seal, a sigil, and was delivered by messenger.
Draw or write your character's reaction to receiving this letter. Will they heed the call? What will they be leaving behind?
Reward: 100 fairy gold 💰
Chapter One, Quest Three
The Open Road
Well, you signed it. Maybe you were inspired by The Sparrow’s words, or maybe you decided you didn’t really have anything better to do. Either way, you said goodbye to your hometown and you’re now on your way to Robellia.
Draw or write about your character's journey to the Spring Duchy. How do you get there? Is it a long journey or a short one? Is it a smooth ride, or did you run into danger along the way? Folkland is a wild and vast realm where magical beasts, tricksters, and bandits can mislead or waylay you (or worse!) if you’re not careful.
*If you already live in Robellia, draw or write about how your character passes the time waiting for the celebration.
Reward: 100 fairy gold 💰
As these quests are part of the main campaign, there is no due date to complete them. Quests also do not need to be completed in order.
