Sprites

🍄 Overview

Sprites are tiny, magic Fae that are spirits of crops and harvests come to life. They are a cheeky and silly race, and love to play tricks. They do not have wings, but appear to be able to fly - when really they are running very quickly across surfaces. 

A Sprite's crop type falls under one of four categories:

• Nut types — Often from the Autumn or Winter Duchy.

• Fruit types — Often from the Summer Duchy.

• Herb types — Often from the Spring Duchy.

• Vegetable types — Often from the Spring or Autumn Duchy.

🍄 Appearance

Sprites are tiny sized, around 20cm tall just like a fairy (only slightly taller on average). They can come in a variety of shapes but tend to have large, round heads and knobbly knees.

Design Guidelines

• They have human skin tones.

• Their hair is often (not always) the colour of the crop they represent.

• They have pointy noses and ears.

• They can have any colour eyes.

• They do not have genitalia.

• They do not have tattoos nor piercings.

Sprite Adoptables

Clothing

• They steal and scrummage for their clothing - wearing all manner of random household items or things discarded in nature (seed pods, flowers, leaves etc).

• Their armour is made of nut shells, foraged items, and a little bit of leather.

• Their clothing is generally a shade of green, brown, or orange.

• They love wearing hats! Nut hats, flower hats, leather caps, etc. Please ensure your Sprite is wearing a lil hat!

• Clothing fabrics are usually wool, cotton, quilts and felt. Whatever material they can scavenge (but never expensive fabrics like silk).

• Clothing is often tattered and patched up.

• They love to wear bells as part of their outfits.

🍄 Birth, Life and Death

Birth

Sprites are crop spirits and are borne from bountiful harvests and gardens. They always appear fully grown (although naked) and they do not age throughout the course of their lives. 

Life

Sprites live to be around 10 years old. 

Death

When Sprites die, they turn into pure magic energy (fairy dust) and shower the next harvest of crops, garden, or orchard. They do not like to mourn death and do not expect a funeral - they go out with a literal bang.

Personality Traits

• Sprites are here for a good time, not a long time. They are happy go lucky little creatures who are signs of a healthy realm.

• They are cheeky, adventurous, playful, curious and inquisitive.

• To a Sprite, life is one big adventure from start to finish and not worth getting sad over.

• They are naturally very creative and can be very intelligent if they can wrangle their attention onto a subject for long enough.

• Sprites can be immature but they are essentially good natured and do care about their friends.

Your Sprites should have a few of these traits but doesn’t have to have all of them. Please feel free to put a unique spin on it.

Romance, Marriage and Offspring

Romance

Sprites seem not to be interested in romance. They think kissing is very funny and will chase after couples making kissy noises and throwing things at them. 

Marriage

They do not marry. 

Offspring

They do not procreate. They are like children themselves and so they do not adopt. 

Miscellaneous

• Sprites are vegetarians and will not eat meat. They do like chicken eggs and milk though. Otherwise they eat simple, uncooked whole foods such as produce, nuts, grains, greens as well as bread and rice.

• When Sprites drink mead they become uncontrollably insane - whizzing around like firecrackers and shooting sparks indiscriminately. Pure chaos.
