Certain Demons draw immense power through the torturing of victims. Demons of this sect have particular rituals to cross to and from their plane. Their portals are a hellish thing to close... for it is a hellish thing to open. For these Demons to rip a hole in this dimension to access their own, they must sacrifice something of innocence and goodness -- an untainted soul, a person of promise. The pain, agony, and suffering of this good being cause a violent tear in the fabric of space, creating a gateway for the infernal. The very essence of goodness is twisted, corrupted, and consumed in a dark ritual that reverberates through the void, leaving behind a scar in reality itself.
Once this portal is opened, the nightmare begins. Demonic foes and their twisted minions surge forth, plunging into our plane with malevolent glee. The air grows thick with the stench of brimstone, the sky darkens, and the ground trembles under their unholy march. They bring with them chaos, despair, and an insatiable hunger for destruction. Each step they take leaves a trail of devastation and agony, and the very world around them cowers under their hellish influence.
It is common these congregations form where such evils, tortures, and malevolence occurred before in our own dimension.
Demonic portals will close on their own but by then the damage is done, and so we and others before us endeavor, when we sense a disturbance, to send out best to sentence it a timely end. Closing such a portal is a task fraught with peril and requires immense strength and unwavering resolve. For just as innocence and goodness must be sacrificed to open it demonic energy itself must be harnessed to close it. Using demonic magic against itself is the surest way to send it back to oblivion, other banishments require far higher arts that we here have only heard echo to us from the west. Therefore one must have the resolve to contend with the Demonic.
To begin this formidable task one must stand before the portal, facing it directly, feeling the oppressive heat and malevolence emanating from the rift. On top of the portal, a demonic article must be placed----be it an armor, a blood orb, a shield, or whatever hellish item one can procure, as long as it is undeniably demonic; we ourselves in the closure of 831, of the first age, used a shield. This infernal token acts as a focus, channeling the malevolent energies back into the void from whence they came. But that alone is not enough.
Demons, of any type, must be positioned one each at the north, west, south, and east of the ritualist, he being able to withstand their power; (excluding a demon in the position where the portal itself is). These wretched beings, embodiments of torment and despair, act as anchors in the uncomplicit ritual, their presence key to reversing the unholy flow. Their energy binds the portal, stabilizing the demonic energies long enough for the final step in the ritual. With everything in place the ritualist yells out in demonic tongue: "MARETH UL'THARAK MORUH THUL." The ground shakes, the air crackles with energy, and with a red cratering suspended above the tear is sealed, the demons banished, and the world saved from their infernal grasp.
All will go quiet, and all trace of them gone, nothing to tell you of the horrors you witnessed except the scarring of your memory---only that leaving a reminder of the thin veil that separates our world from the infernal.
