Lions
Fearsome predators of the desert, they often eat the smaller creatures that traverse the Kha'labal's sands. Occasionally unwary travelers or ill prepared Bedouin will fall pray to lions as well, with their bones afterwards to be picked clean by buzzards or hyaenas.

The Hyaena
The Kha'labal is now roamed by packs of hyaenas... These creatures are carnivorous but rarely kill live prey of their own. Scavengers, they typically feast on those whose lives the desert has already claimed. Cowardly in nature, they will flee when challenged unless they get too hungry.

Sandsnake - the Cobra
The sand snakes hold deadly venom within their fangs. Some have witnessed these creatures spit their toxic venom from a distance. Far more deadly than their spit is their bite. Any traveler should be sure to bring vials of antidote if they intend to survive the desert sands. These creatures avoid the surface of the desert for the most part, as such a creature is vulnerable to the sand, wind, and sharp teeth of other desert predators. In crevices amongst rocks, the mountains, and subterranean tunnels, one is sure to encounter these creatures. Listen closely for the unmistakable hiss of the cobra, and these might be detected even in the dark.

Scarabs
Loathsome scavenging insects. The scarabs are the most invasive species of the desert. Where there is a food source, these insects thrive and multiply exponentially. The age of a scarab can be determined by the size of its shell. The older scarabs that have survived for countless years grow far larger than a man and are known to grow pincers large and powerful enough to slice a man in half like a twig.
Desert folk familiar with the scarab hives are known to collect and trade scarab shells. The shells are useful due to their thick, stout nature. They are sometimes used for crafting structures, tools, and armors.
Scarabs excrete a unique poison that if inhaled can prove deadly. The larger, older scarabs are known to excrete clouds of poison so stiff that it fills a room and can knock out any adventurers that might inhale such a gas. The source of this poison is a gland found within the scarab shell that grows with time as does the scarab's shell.
Travelers new to Ankrahmun are often disgusted to find that Ankrahmunian tequila is flavored with a diluted and neutralized sampling of juice squeezed from a slain scarab's poison gland.
