A patron may renew an item BEFORE the item is past due. Once an item is overdue, it must be returned to the library. If there is not a hold on the item, you can discharge the item and re-check it out to the patron. Most items are allowed to be renewed at least once.
Go to the "Renew User" tab
2. Search for the patron by scanning their Texan Card or searching their name just like checking out an item. PHOTO ID is ALSO REQUIRED TO RENEW.
3. If the item is in front of you, make sure that the "Seen" box has a check in it. If you are renewing the item and it is NOT in front of you, make sure this box is blank. DO NOT RENEW AN ITEM THAT IS OVERDUE. Also, be sure to check the "Renew" box of the items you are renewing as well.
4. Click "Renew Selected Items"
5. After you click "Renew Selected Items", their new due date will appear and their receipt will partially print. Always double check that the date extended correctly.
6. Be sure to click "Close" so that the transaction is complete and the receipt will print.
7. Verbally tell the patron their new due date and hand them their receipt.
The Sirsi calendar stops at the end of every semester. This is an effort to encourage students to return their materials. When the calendar end date is sooner than then checkout period, you will start to see pop-ups letting you know the calendar is ending. If students want to renew into the new semester, we can override the due date if they present proof of registration for the upcoming semester, example... it is the end of the spring semester, so they must show proof of enrollment in the summer semester. Generally one week after finals, the Systems Department will load the new calendar and at this point, you can cease requiring proof of registration because patron data will be updated in the system.
All faculty and staff renewals at the end of the semester will also need an override. Please get a supervisor to renew faculty books since they check out books for an entire semester.
Community members and friends of the library only get TWO unseen renewals, third renewal must be brought into the library.
