In order to check out ANY item in the library, every patron no matter the circumstance, must show some physical form of photo ID.
NO EXCEPTIONS. Giving their UIN DOES NOT COUNT!
For the most part, the patrons of the library are generally students, faculty, and staff of Tarleton State. However, we do have some affiliate members who also have access to checking out books. These members include and are not limited to: Friends of the Library, SSC employees, TexShare users, alumni, etc. These patrons will also have a card issued to them by library staff that they also must provide upon checkout. These patrons can also use a photo ID such as a driver's license.
Always check and make sure that the photo matches the patron. A patron CANNOT checkout under a friend's account. If a patron doesn't have their ID on them, we can hold the book for five days for them so that they can come back with their card.
Click on the Check Out option from the upper left menu in SIRSI.
2. Pull up the patron's account.
There are two ways to pull up a patron record
Option 1: If the patron has their Texan Card, click in the User ID field and scan the barcode on the back.
Option 2: If they have a photo ID, search for the patron by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the upper left of the check out box and search for their name.
Confirm that you are viewing the correct patron's record by having THEM give you their UIN.
REMEMBER!!! You CANNOT give out any patron information from SIRSI. The patron must be the one who gives the number.
3. Once you have the patron record pulled up, click on the "Item ID" field and scan the barcode of the item. If the scanner is not working, manually type the item number in and press enter.
4. As items are charged, the titles will appear in the list of checkouts below. Continue scanning items if the patron has more they wish to check out.
5. When you have finished scanning all the items, click the "Close" button. This will print out a receipt with the due date information on it.
6. Add a Stuffie to each book.
Each book has a sensor located in a pocket towards the front or back of an item. This will cause an alarm to sound when the item passes through the gates at the front of the building. When items are checked out, these stuffies block the sensor from tripping the alarms. Be sure to place the stuffie over the sensor or you will set the alarm off.
7. When handing the patron their items, verbally inform them when their items are due back and let them know the date is also on the receipt.
If the patron would like a bag for their books, we keep plastic bags in the bottom drawer below the cash drawer. These are generally used for rainy days or patrons who check out several books.
