Texan Pick-Up will pull materials from Tarleton Libraries’ shelves and place them on hold for patrons to pick up. Items are pulled Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and closures.
Patrons will get an email to their Tarleton email address letting them know that the item has been retrieved from the shelf.
Items from the Dick Smith Library:
Submit by 8AM, Monday through Friday: available by 10AM same day.
Submit between 8AM and 3PM, Monday through Friday: available by 5 pm same day (next weekday if the library is closed by or before 5:00 pm).
Items from Offsite Storage:
Submit by Noon: available by 2:30 pm same day.
Items from Rickett:
Items from Rickett will be available at Dick Smith 3-4 weekdays after request is submitted.
The report will be printed out at 8AM and 3PM each day. During that shift, students and or staff will grab the report and highlight the call numbers of the books that need to be pulled from the stacks.
After each item has been pulled, place a sticky note with the patron name and the holds expiration date written on it.
After labelling the holds, scan each item using the Trap Holds wizard in SIRSI. Its location is within the "Holds" group and has been highlighted below.
4. Once each item is scanned, place the item on the hold shelf behind the Circ Desk wall.
5. Patrons will have 3 weekdays to pick-up their item. Unlike ILL, these items MUST BE CHECKED OUT to the patron.
A patron can request items be picked up at either Fort Worth or here in Stephenville. Therefore, when you scan an item in the Trap Holds wizard, you may see the following popup if the book is needed elsewhere:
Click on "Put item in transit" and place it on the desk of the supervisor who is there to send to Fort Worth.
We will also start seeing books with a call number that has FTW at the top. These belong to the library in Fort Worth and need to be placed on a supervisor's desk so that we can ship them back. Once discharged, they too should get a put item in transit pop up. Be sure to click on "Put Item in Transit".
Typically library staff handle the pulling and trapping of holds, student workers will primarily be the ones checking these items out.
Cameras that are placed on hold DO NOT go on the hold shelf, different process - see "Cameras" page.

The Authorized Users service allows Tarleton faculty and staff to designate other people to checkout or pick up items for them.
Faculty and staff members who wish to set up an authorized user on their library account must fill out and sign the “Authorized User Form”. The faculty or staff member can either bring the completed form to the Circulation Desk at the Dick Smith or Rickett Libraries or send it through campus mail. In instances in which the form is not hand delivered, library staff will reach out via campus email to verify the authorization. Please place any completed forms on the Access Services Manager's desk after verifying ID matches the author of the form.
When checking out material for their faculty or staff member, the authorized user needs to inform the service desk that they are checking out material to someone else's account, otherwise it will be checked out to their own personal account, and they will be responsible for it.
An authorized user can be added to an account at any time. However, all proxies will expire at the end of the summer term and can be renewed at the beginning of the fall semester. It is up to the faculty or staff member to inform the library of any changes that need to be made, such as if a graduate assistant leaves their position.
Patron MUST inform staff that they are checking out on behalf of the faculty or staff member that they are an authorized user for and present a photo ID.
Staff will go to the named faculty or staff member’s SIRSI account details under "Display User" and check the "Extended Info" tab to verify that the name on the person’s ID matches a name under the “Notes” section.
3. Then, click on checkout and search for that professor or staff person like you would if you were checking out to someone who was using a driver's license (if you just looked them up, their name should appear in blue under the search bar like the example below.
4. Scan all items the authorized user has and be sure to put the receipt in to one of the books so the professor or staff person has the due date information.
It is very important that you make sure you verify the authorized user in the faculty or staff's account and that you check out the book to the right person!
To keep track of the number of times we do an authorized user checkout, we will keep a running tally on the walkthrough document.
