A designer’s paradise, TCDC! Students from DIPS had a fruitful workshop last May 12 where they have been toured from the past to the future of design. Thailand Creative and Design Center is a public resource center that mainly focuses on the design and creative industries like architecture, UX/UI design, and the likes.
Students explored the wonders of designing as they looked into the depths and core of design in Thailand may it be architectural or industrial design, both of which includes a characteristic of innovation. The students were able to see the works of designers and how they have done it from scratch, they also looked through the process of designing through the stimulation provided on the museum and the results of the design through the prototypes. They also went to different floors with different centers such as library, café, maker space, resource center, materials and design innovation center which was full of books, tools, and materials for designing.
They had an awesome material library where every foreign and local materials have been kept in a small tabula. Students were tasked to find a material that’s either wood, polymer, or metal for their project in Material Technology class. Each student looked through the materials library not only for their project but to have discussions with each other and imagine designs they could make through their chosen material. Students also looked through online about their material to research and learn more about it to be able to see how they could design outside of the box.
Overall students were mesmerized to see the wonders of design and innovation through different presentation. Now they are slowly stepping into becoming a great innovative designer as they learn not only how design works but also the design history, theory, trends, and technology.
