August, 2026
On 7 August 2026, CIS was invited to share our research insights at the 2026 International Forum: “Green Living Across Contexts – Local Practices, Global Dialogues” at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan.
Arunothai, CIS Manager and Lead Field Researcher, shared CIS’s experience working alongside older adults in Sakon Nakhon, exploring how local knowledge, existing skills, and community resources can be transformed into new opportunities for small businesses. These field experiences have gradually shaped a practical model for strengthening older entrepreneurs, which CIS has also adapted to other contexts, including our Learning City work in Satun.
Two Design Innovation (DI) students, Piyapong Laowakul and Supitcha Sonthi, who have been working with CIS on service design, UX/UI, and digital platforms supporting the green economy in Sakon Nakhon, also joined the one week international student workshop alongside undergraduate and graduate students from Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand.
Working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, they explored Tainan through field research, exchanged approaches to user research and fieldwork, and learned from peers bringing different expertise, from design and environmental studies to programming and data analysis.
For CIS, this is an important part of how we develop our lab students: learning should move beyond the classroom and beyond disciplinary and national boundaries. By working on real issues with people from different backgrounds, students develop not only professional capability, but also the confidence, adaptability, and global mindset needed for their future practice.
Our sincere thanks to NCKU for the invitation and for creating this valuable opportunity for CIS to share our work, and for our DI students to learn, contribute, connect, and grow together with an international community.
