The Sakon Nakhon workshop has been a success! The three-day workshop has been a blast for DIPS students and also for their seniors and CIS. The days were packed with different activities for every group like trekking in the forest to look for mushrooms, learn indigo dyeing, interview locals, meet up with a medium and many more. The students were excited every day to what they were going to do, where they would be going, what would they be seeing and what they would be eating.
Again, DIPS students were divided into four groups, and they were tasked to research about different topics: natural, cultural, beliefs and daily life of the community. Every activity was fun-filled and fruitful learning experience for every group and every student. For the first day, students had a fun yet tiring ride going to Sakon Nakhon, Tao Ngoi district as it was a ten-hour ride from Bangkok, but the good thing is that they were able to sight-see some places, dams, statues, and they also stopped for food, of course, which also brought these students closer. Moreover, travelling by land deeply help them appreciate the landscapes and beauty of Thailand. Second day came, Natural group got up early that day to trek in the forest to look for mushrooms as it was mushroom season, and they went back for breakfast. After breakfast and cultural mapping, the Daily life group went into market and the likes to check the daily lives of people, the Belief group went to see the medium to experience the ritual and interview them about it and Cultural group went to interview people also, while the Natural group visited different places and interview locals. For the third day, everyone went to learn about indigo dyeing with Mann Craft and in the afternoon every group visited different places to get more learning experience and gather more information.
It was really a productive workshop as they got to experience seeing the beauty of the city and district may it be physical or cultural beauty. They got to experience different culture other than theirs, and they got to eat different local foods. Overall, it was a good learning experience and with what they have gathered, they would be able to create a product or service for people living in Tao-Ngoi.
The exhibit in FABLAB Bangkok will be open soon so we hope you stick around~!
