Towards a Learning City
Satun Learning City is a community-driven initiative transforming Satun into a model of inclusive, lifelong learning. It integrates local knowledge, geocultural identity, and sustainability to strengthen education, civic participation, and local economies. Through creative programs like learning routes, geotourism, and intergenerational storytelling, the project connects marginalized groups, youth, and elders in shared learning. Satun’s unique approach to city branding redefines development through culture, ecology, and innovation. Supported by partnerships between local government, schools, communities, and KMUTT’s Center of Innovation for Society, Satun is paving the way for rural transformation grounded in people’s wisdom and global collaboration.
Key Focuses
Empowering Local Learners
Participants deepen their understanding of Satun’s local identity, ecology, and social challenges. By engaging in hands-on activities and knowledge exchange, learners develop confidence and the capacity to apply local wisdom in creative, impactful ways that support their communities and sustainable futures.
Strengthening Civic Participation
The program fosters active citizenship by encouraging residents—especially youth and marginalized groups—to participate in local decision-making and community development. Through workshops, public forums, and storytelling, participants gain skills in dialogue, collaboration, and leadership for social transformation.
Cultivating Global-Local Perspectives
Through international collaborations and exposure to geocultural learning, learners develop global citizenship mindsets while remaining rooted in local heritage. This dual perspective prepares them to be culturally aware innovators who can navigate diverse challenges and build inclusive, interconnected communities.
Key Activities
Satun’s identity is reimagined through cultural preservation, inclusive storytelling, and design-driven engagement. By showcasing local values, arts, and ecological richness, the branding effort positions Satun as a vibrant, learning-oriented city rooted in heritage and open to the world.
A network of learning administrators, schools, and communities fosters inclusive and lifelong learning across all ages. Programs support informal education, knowledge-sharing, and accessible opportunities for marginalized groups, aiming to reduce inequality and promote well-being through continuous, community-based learning.
Designed as immersive experiences, Satun’s learning routes connect natural sites, cultural landmarks, and community hubs. These routes offer hands-on learning in areas like geoscience, crafts, and sustainable tourism—bridging formal and informal education while promoting local economies and environmental awareness.
