"Make" in Klongsan
Klongsan Make (คลองสานmake) is the flagship project of CIS, in collaboration with FabLab Bangkok. We've spent a year engaging with the diverse, vibrant Klongsan community—a hub of rich culture and significant local businesses. Through our work, we've identified what drives the people of Klongsan to create, gathering case studies along the way.
We've also partnered with local schools and communities to introduce the concept of "Make" to teachers, students, and community members through interest-driven activities. Our pilot schools have successfully completed their programs, and we're gearing up for the next big step. Stay tuned for exciting new activities coming soon!
Key Focuses
Build an Awareness
We introduce the Maker mindset by showcasing real stories, inspiring tools, and tangible outcomes from local makers. Through exhibitions, community events, and storytelling, we help teachers, students, and community members recognize the value of making as a pathway to learning, creativity, and local empowerment.
Develop an Attitude
Making isn’t just a skill—it’s a mindset. We encourage curiosity, resilience, and problem-solving by embedding maker culture into everyday learning. Through school-based projects and community involvement, participants develop confidence and the willingness to experiment, adapt, and collaborate in the face of challenges.
Create "Make Habit"
Through continuous, hands-on activities, we support the development of a lifelong habit of making. From classrooms to community spaces, students and teachers alike are equipped with the mindset, tools, and networks to turn ideas into reality—transforming making from a one-time activity into a regular practice.
Key Contributions
We organize intensive workshops for teachers to experience the Maker approach firsthand. These sessions build foundational skills in design thinking, tool usage, and facilitation techniques, empowering educators to bring making into their classrooms with confidence and creativity.
We bring mobile Maker workshops directly to schools, providing students with fun, hands-on experiences in electronics, materials, and design. These sessions help unlock their creativity and introduce practical applications of what they learn—turning schools into active hubs of innovation.
We create toolkits that support hands-on learning—ranging from leather craft kits to electronic toy tools. To make these resources more accessible, we’ve established a Tool Borrow System that allows schools and communities to borrow and use our tools for workshops and local events. This system encourages expands opportunities for creative practice, and strengthens the local maker ecosystem.
