Invented by Aldus Manutius during typewriter era. To highlight, simply write the word in a slanting way.

It's easier to type, but hard to hand-write, and hard to draw.

Common emphasis

• Collection of something, like:
  • Book Title (collection of chapters)
  • Novels (collection of stories)
  • Movie Title (collection of videos acts)
  • Albums (collection of songs)
• If we want to emphasize the item in the collection, however, we use quotations instead:
  • "Act I - Construction" from Return of Masters movie.
  • "Incoming", song from Sky High album.

Underline

Common way for handwriting. To highlight, simply draw a line under the word.

Bold

Common way for handwriting and drawing. To highlight, simply draw/write repeatedly on the same word until it looks fat.

1. What is/are required to be emphasized?
   1. Are the italic/bold/underline word or phrases matching the emphasis?
      1. Is the title the collection of something (album, movie, book, etc.)?
         1. NO - use quotation
