RAH Main Pantry Beautification Project: We are currently working on the RAH Pantry Beautification Project. Our goal is to make the space feel more welcoming and dignity-affirming for students through small and manageable changes and tweaks. Our department is providing financial resources to fund improvements like new shelving and containers to help with better organization and storage. We’re also planning to add an open sign to increase visibility, making it easier for students to find the pantry. Additionally, we’ll be doing some small touch-ups to the space to enhance its overall atmosphere, creating a more inviting environment where students feel supported and respected when accessing food and hygiene items.
Funding the ASCSU Pocket Pantry: After a successful pilot program this summer, a bill was written in collaboration with Senate Speaker Hayden Taylor and Director Jorja Whyte over the summer. This bill seeks to provide funding for ASCSU Pocket Pantry specifically, allocating $15,000 dollars from senates discretionary fund to the Basic Needs Discretionary fund which we will use to stock the pantry with hygiene items, culturally competent food selection, and allergy friendly items. It aims to expand the reach and availability of the items in the ASCSU pocket pantry, ensuring that students have easier access to essential items. This initiative addresses the increasing levels of food insecurity among CSU students. The primary goal is to reduce the burden of food insecurity on students, promote student well-being, and ensure that no student has to choose between basic needs and their education.
Future Work: Collect data on what hygiene items, culturally competent food selection, and allergy friendly items should be chosen for the pantry. Additionally, we are working on operationalizing a purchasing system for consistent stocking.
