Official Wording:
âHumbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.â
Youâve identified traits that no longer serve youâand now, you're inviting help to release them. Whether âHimâ means God, spirit, inner wisdom, or the recovery process itself, this step is about:
Surrendering with humility, not pride or shame
Accepting that change often comes with help
Trusting that healing is possible when you ask honestly
You can craft your own heartfelt request. Hereâs a sample to inspire you:
âI surrender these traitsâfear, resentment, controlânot because I am weak, but because I am ready. I ask for the strength to change, the grace to grow, and the courage to step into my full self.â
Choose 3â5 traits youâre ready to release (e.g., fear, resentment, isolation, control, self-pity). Then we shape them into a mantra like this:
âI humbly release fear and control. These no longer guide my path. I ask for clarity, peace, and connection to take their place. I trust the process of change. I open myself to grace.â
You can swap out the traits and virtues to match your journey. Hereâs another variation:
âI surrender resentment, dishonesty, and pride. I do so not in defeat, but in strength. I ask for courage, honesty, and humility to rise within me. May I be transformed by love and wisdom.â
âI humbly release the burden of control, resentment, and fear. I no longer need these to protect meâI choose peace instead. I welcome grace into my life, and ask for humility, honesty, and love to take root in me. With every breath, I trust in transformation. I surrender, and I grow.â
