The Paladins immediately confront Tiberius Ranston, the acting Lord Protector General, in his Castle, before a meeting of the Lord Protector General's council, which happened to be in session. The Paladins all sense the corruption emanating from all present within the meeting, and arrest everyone present. For Three days the Paladins hunted all those who had become corrupted, and put them in the care of the Temple of Amroth within Axeholm for cleansing, and the Castle was declared off limits to all but the Paladins, and the High Priests of Amroth.
With all the nobility that could be found under arrest, five Paladins entered the castle, and descended into its dungeons. What they found was a twisted labyrinth filled with nightmarish horrors, some of which were once mortals. For what seemed like days the Paladins fought toward the centre of the labyrinth, where Shaytan's prison once stood. The Prison was never enough to hold Shaytan, and he had fled days before, but had left a gateway that was growing larger by the hour. The Paladins all agreed that there was only one way to close the gateway, and so they entered the Pit itself.
With their faith shielding them from the corruption and taint of the Pit, the five Paladins stormed a tower which they found beyond the gateway, and at its summit met the Guardian of the gateway, Sathariel the Thrice Cursed, once an Avatar of Law, but now a cursed abomination. The Battle lasted for several hours, but eventually Sathariel was slain, allowing the Paladins to return to the Material Plane, and call upon the power of Amroth to close the gateway. The Corruption now lifted; the Paladins returned to the front lines.
