Skill Costs

All races get 65XP to spend on character generation. This is increased to 80XP for humans.

At character generation all races get at least 1 endurance rank, the ability to call single with one or two weapons under 18", a save, literacy (common and one other language of choice), ten guilders (currency) and their racial ability.

Skills are bought in the following manner:

The XP cost for a rank in that skill is the XP cost listed here multiplied by the rank you are purchasing.

To purchase a skill as a second class, the effective purchasing rank is +1. To purchase a skill as a third class, the effective purchasing rank is +2.

You must purchase skills at the costs of the first class you have taken which has access to it, even if subsequent classes will be cheaper. For example as a Moulder/Rogue you would buy weapon use skills at the cost for Moulder, but could buy Backstab at the cost for Rogue as it is not present in Moulder.

Purchasing Endurance ranks counts as purchasing a rank one further down because you automatically obtain these skills at character generation.

Purchasing Spell Points or Saves cost the amount listed below no matter what level you purchase it as. Example:

Joseph is a Bard/Thief. If he wished to purchase Endurance Rank II it would cost him 4(=4*1) XP as a bard. While if he wanted to purchase Sword Use II it would cost him 10(=5*2)XP.

To purchase Backstab I it can only be purchased as a rogue, so would cost as if Joseph was purchasing Backstab II, which amounts to 6(=6*2)XP. Whereas if he wanted to an extra save it would cost 6 XP no matter what rank he obtained.

The rank system:

The majority of the following Skills are divided into 4 Skill Ranks. These ranks are : -

Rank 1

The character in only an Apprentice in this skill. learning the basic of the craft, but not necessarily from a master, but sometimes due to their own initiative.

Rank 2

The character has learned all he can basics of their craft, and has become a Journeyman of this craft. He now attempts to learn about his craft by application.

Rank 3

The character has learned enough of this skill about equal to be able to become a teacher to some-one who knows nothing of the skill.

Rank 4

The character is now an Expert in their skill, they have learned as much as they can about their craft as they can. From now on they must begin to innovate to gain further knowledge…

Master of Skills

In order to become a Master of a skill, a player must already possess Rank IV and spend 50 XP (or the cost of Rank V if that is more expensive). This is done completely with referee approval. The actual effects of a Mastery skill varies from Master to Master and should be discussed with a referee before the player is able to purchase the mastery.

The are 2 forms of Masteries:

Other forms are acceptable and as always Masteries must be discussed with Refs before they can be bought.
