We are committed to making our community safe and inclusive for all participants, this code of conduct is designed to explicitly outline our expectation for appropriate behaviour at any event or in any community forum associated with Aberddu Adventures. The scope of these expectations is not exclusive to activities during sessions, and where relevant also applies to interactions between community members in other electronic or social forums. While we always recommend attempting to solve conflicts amongst yourselves, we are aware there are times this will not be possible.
If an issue emerges that contradicts the expectations of our Code of Conduct, the Game Team will evaluate the situation and apply appropriate disciplinary actions (outlined below). While it is our explicit goal not to mediate or monitor private communications, or become involved in personal disputes, we may occasionally find it necessary to evaluate a complete picture of a participant’s reputation and behavior in the course of supporting community safety.
It is expected of all participants within the game environment to have read this code of conduct and to adhere to it at all times whilst within that environment. Failure to read the code will not constitute an excuse for behaviour.
It is expected that all players will enter into the game bearing in mind the concepts of Fair Play and Good Faith. This has previously been referred to as “Rule 7: Don’t take the piss”. It is possible to technically follow a rule while intentionally pushing the boundaries or manipulating the intent behind the rule. Do not do this. You are expected to follow the Spirit of the Rules at all times.
The Game Team will always attempt to provide clarity on a rule when asked about interpretations, but they will not accept participants attempting to twist the Letter of the Rules against the Spirit. Game Team judgement is final.
Treat all players with respect and courtesy. Insults and prejudices should be based on IC factors and character decisions. Basing these on OC factors such as sexual identity, age, body shape, appearance, costume standard, or OC ability is not permitted.
Follow the safety rules to the best of your ability. If you notice something unsafe, alert relevant players and game staff. If you believe a person is acting in an unsafe way, inform the game staff, who will be able to assess the situation.
Wear kit that is comfortable, safe, and appropriate for the weather conditions and terrain. Players may be asked to remove items that could cause injury to the player or others or be sent home if there is a concern that their clothes are not suitable during adverse weather conditions.
Alcohol and Drug Use
Do not engage in combat if you have consumed alcohol or medication that may impair your physical or cognitive abilities. Illegal substances are not permitted. Being inebriated is not an excuse for not following the code of conduct.
Health Information
Please inform the game team if you have any specific health needs or requirements, as they may be able to suggest appropriate accommodations. Urgent medication, such as inhalers or EpiPens should be highlighted to an appropriate team member. Out of character medication should not be used as an in character prop.
Safety Tools
The system has safety calls and tools that can and should be utilised when necessary. No player should be penalised in game or out of game for using an out of character safety tool. Safety tools are meant to be used to promote welfare, they are not to be used to avoid consequences for in-game actions.
Obtain consent before engaging in physical contact with another player, and respect any personal boundaries they communicate on an OC level.
Obtain clear OC consent before attempting to engage in sexual or romantic interactions with another player. Sexual or romantic interactions involving players or characters under the age of 18 are not permitted in any circumstances.
Keep interactions in IC areas IC as much as possible. If you need to communicate something OC, then you should raise your hand and specify that it is an OC comment or move to an OC area to talk about it.
It’s common practice to break immersion if there is a concern for a safety hazard or injury.
Any items that have been stolen IC must be immediately reported to a game-runner. If this includes a Phys-rep, this Phys-rep must also be reported and returned to the player before the end of session.
Forgeries that have been made OC must also be checked by the game team before the start of session. Any forgeries made IC must be checked by the game team when they are created.
Stealing is never permitted out of character.
Be mindful of any props used and handle them appropriately. If props are taken to be taken care of or repaired, inform the game team if you are unable to return them.
Keep the environment tidy, and clear up any mess or litter before leaving.
Be courteous to members of the local community, especially when larping in public spaces and when traveling to or from events during the evenings.
Be mindful of what counts as appropriate kit and props. For clothes and kit - nipples, butt cracks and genitalia should be covered. Real knives and blades are not permitted in the IC area without Ref approval. Avoid glass bottle phys-reps. If you are using glass in the game area, keep it in a safe place where there is minimal risk of it getting broken.
In the case of an investigation into potential breaches of the Code of Conduct, there are several possible outcomes:
Nothing - The party or parties are found to have acted within the bounds of the Code and the Rules of the game and no intervention is needed.
Mediation - The party or parties are spoken to by the Game Team and an amicable solution is reached, or the parties resolve their complaint on their own, to both party’s satisfaction.
Avoidance Policy - The Game Team issue an ‘avoidance policy’ in which the parties are expected to avoid each other at game sessions where possible, and limit their in character contact.
Voluntary Removal from session - The player may choose to exit the session themselves.
Involuntary Removal from session - The Game Team asks the player to exit the session.
Long term or Permanent Ban - The Player is no longer allowed to attend sessions.
The Zero Tolerance policy is intended to cover anything that could do direct harm to anyone or to the game itself.
These scenarios are very serious and never taken lightly; even though we can remove anyone at any time, there is always significant time, effort, and consideration given to each instance. In many cases, we can’t give further information, as transparent as we want to be. The safety and privacy of victims will always be prioritized. We do so to encourage others to come forward in the future. This is not an excuse for lack of transparency this is a promise to anyone in our community seeking help.
We have Zero Tolerance any of the following behaviors or actions:
Verbal threats or attempts of harm out of character
Physical or sexual assault
Vandalism to building, venues, props or game property
Stealing (from the game or participants)
Hate speech
Possession or consumption of illegal substances on site
