S2>S3 Course Choice Info

As your child approaches the end of S2, we are beginning the Senior Phase Pathways Planning process to support progression into S3 and S4. We would like to clarify how subject choices at this stage fit into a four-year Senior Phase plan, running from S3 through to S6.

Senior Phase planning – a four-year pathway

Your child’s current S2 courses provide a broad base of learning across a wide range of subjects. This helps pupils develop an understanding of which subjects they enjoy and where they are most successful.

By selecting seven subjects at the start of S2, pupils began a planned course of study designed to:

• build strong foundations for National and Higher qualifications

• allow for depth, progression and continuity in learning

• support achievement in subjects where pupils show particular strengths and potential

As pupils move into S3, the focus is on consolidating learning and specialising into subjects that are their strongest and best. Your child will be selecting subjects to study for two years - S3 and S4. They will not be change subjects over these two years so making good informed choices is very important. 

To support this process you are invite to come into school to meet with your child's PT PCS to discuss together with your child the subjects they wish to study for the next two years.

We would really like these appointments to be face to face meetings in the school but we do understand that sometimes this is not easy.  If you would prefer this meeting to be a phone conference with the PT PCS in school with the young person and the parent/carer on the phone, please list that in the comments part of the booking.
