History is a strong academic subject that opens a variety of opportunities to future jobs
and studies. Employers and universities see history as a robust academic subject rich
in skills, knowledge and understanding.
In History you learn to look at events and people from the past and find the impact,
relevance and trends that are in the world today. It is fun, fascinating and varied, with
opportunities to explore - not only what has happened in the past – but how it has made
today, and what it could mean in the future.
The variety of ways to learn skills for life and work is wide.
You will learn and develop key skills such as collaborating with others and critical
thinking skills; where your work to develop the ability to remember key events, facts
and information, understand the reason for events and the impact they had, apply your
knowledge to analysing and evaluating historical sources.
You will develop your communication skills through a variety of technology used in
your learning and life such as video, PowerPoint, Sway, digital texts and digital research.
Throughout the year you will be given opportunities to display and bring forward your
personal responsibility skills. This will include the expectations of time management
and high attendance as well as a displaying a self-motivating work ethic and attitude
through independent learning and research projects.
