Application of Maths

Applications of mathematics, is available at National 4, National 5 and Higher which develops the knowledge of Financial maths, geometry, planning, modelling and statistics.

At all levels there is a strong focus on making and justifying decisions from the interpretation of data ensuring that learners develop data literacy skills which will be essential in their working lives. There will be ample opportunities to develop analytical and evaluative skills which will enable them to access much richer learning contexts.  This in turn will develop resilience and confidence to creatively find solutions to problems. Each of these skills will be beneficial to their learning in other subject areas.

Learners will develop their digital literacy skills as they progress through applications of mathematics: using several data packages to explore large data sets and interpret, communicate and manage information. This provides direct links to many career pathways.

A vast array of careers are available to learners who complete the Applications of Mathematics courses, National 4 level will allow progression to office assistant, hair and beauty, hospitality or many Dundee and Angus college courses. At National 5 pathways open into teaching, nursing, accountancy apprenticeships and a wider range of college courses.

At Higher level many university courses are accessible including: psychology, sociology, business management, and economics.
