Geography is a broad based academic subject which will open up options for you in your
future. Employers and universities see geography as a robust academic subject rich in
skills, knowledge and understanding. Geography helps you to make sense of the world
around you. It is hands on, relevant, and fun.
When you learn in geography you will develop many transferrable skills. You will
enhance your communication skills as you have to read and understand sources,
discuss information and write reports. Working with technology occurs regularly in
geography with opportunities to use digital maps, interrogate a wide range of data and
research topics.
Critical thinking skills are embedded throughout geography as you will evaluate the
effectiveness of current strategies used to solve geographical problems and issues.
You will also make practical use of your numeracy skills when you interpret data,
construct graphs and analyse findings. Your ability to recall information will progress
as you learn strategies to improve your sense making skills.
