First through fifth grade nature presentations are coming soon. In the Grammar School, presentations are polished narrations which help prepare our students to speak with confidence and poise in front of a group. First quarter narrations, especially in the younger grades, can cause some nervousness at first, but it is incredible to see the growth in confidence as students learn eye contact, hand gestures, and voice control. Watch the video above for tips on how to model this!
First through Fourth graders sit with their buddies in chapel, send one another encouraging notes, and get to read with one another regularly. We love this tradition in our Valor family and the opportunity our students have to model the values of the kingdom for one another. Do you know who your student's buddy is? Encourage them to draw a picture, write a note, or share a Bible verse.
Charlotte Mason said that the guiding principle of education is "the science of relations." A child should have an intimate, emotional connection to the things she is learning. When the emotions are engaged, knowledge becomes living. An English boy living in Japan once said, "Isn't it fun, Mother, learning all these things? Everything seems to fit into something else."
Try out these practical ideas for nurturing this "science of relations" on your homedays:
Move outside for a subject or two. The weather is beautiful!
Take out the manipulatives! There's nothing like using food for math problems and then eating them when you're done.
Stand up and use motions for any recitation times. Model this by doing it with them. Pretend you're having fun even if you aren't that day=)
Encourage connections between subjects and to the Author of all of them.
Fall Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, November 14th, this year. More details to come!
Logic school students are working hard and growing to love that which is True, Good, and Beautiful. This week our students have engaged in the Great Conversation with: Egyptian Pharaohs, Moses via the book of Genesis, St. Augustine, Dante, Beowulf, The Prophet Samuel, and the Theories of Kinetic and Potential Energy.
