Matthew F
Matthew F
By Matthew Fisher
When I was born, my grandma would always tell me I was born for greatness and I was a gift from God. The name Matthew is such a simple name. It means the gift of God. I love the meaning of my name. I think it is really special and holds a lot of importance. It comes from the Hebrew name mattityahu, meaning "gift of yahweh" from the roots mattn.(Behind the name) Because of how well the name Matthew matches me, I believe it is the ideal choice for me. It hasn't always been a blessing to be called Matthew. Growing up, I thought it was such an odd name and loathed it. I would eventually prefer it if people just called me "fish" as a nickname. My teammates and coaches used to call me "fish," and later, all of my buddies started doing the same. I stopped responding when someone called me Matthew since it had become so natural to me. But as time went on, I realized how wonderful the name Matthew was and how awful it really wasn't. It took some courage that some people may not realize when I told people they can call me Matthew, but I am so proud that I made that decision. There's a reason Matthew is one of the most popular names in the country every year. (Campbell) It's special to have. My name holds a lot of meaning, and it represents who I am. I can't hide from that. I'm proud of my name; I'm proud to be called Matthew, and I'm pleased to show people myself. I am blessed to live and get told by my parents and family members every day that I was a gift from God. I've concluded, though, that I'm not a gift from god. My parents are the natural gifts in my life. My whole family is a gift from God. My name may be a gift from God, but the people around me have been something better than a gift.
