The All-Attractive
Krishna is the incarnation of the supreme Hindu god Brahma. The meaning of the name Krishna is all-attractive, so people, animals, plants, and even water would come to him. He possessed every quality that was considered attractive: beauty, money, power, knowledge, etc. People and animals alike would gape at him when they witnessed his presence because of his handsomeness (Prabhupada). My name, Krish, is an abbreviation of the god named Krishna. I think of myself as similar to him as I can attract people, however, I am the opposite with animals. Unfortunately, dogs and cats have a history of chasing and scratching me, while all animals adored Krishna.
Krishna also participated in the Kurukshetra war and helped the Pandavas defeat the Kauravas. To explain, the Pandavas were five brothers who had to face the Kauravas, and some of the Kauravas were their family. Conflicted about fighting against their own family, Krishna aided the Pandavas by writing the Bhagavad Gita, a revered Hindu book that explains right from wrong, which helped guide the Pandavas throughout the war (Doniger). Similarly, I hope to guide people by becoming a doctor and leading them onto the right path. Whether it's helping patients fight addictions or life-changing injuries, I want to support them and help them live their best lives. In this manner, I can attempt to live up to Krishna's reputation.
My parents decided to name me Krish because every infant in Indian culture has an auspicious letter assigned by solar signs, and mine was K. My parents wanted to name me either Kush or Krish. While I was named Krish, my little brother received the name Kush, which means happiness (“Kush Name Meaning”). Although my name is not very common in America, Krish is one of the top 10 most popular names in India. This is because Krishna is a Hindu god, and about 79.8% of people in India are Hindus (Kramer). However, in 2006, Krish ranked 633 among American male names, displaying its growing popularity internationally. Most likely, this ranking was because of the release of the popular movie Krrish (“Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Krish”). Despite its commonality, I am proud of my name because it not only exemplifies my Indian descent but motivates me to be more like the all-attractive Krishna.
