Photography I introduces students to the art of digital photography using digital SLR cameras in combination with the basic editing and printing features of Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn how to take visually successful photographs by applying knowledge of the exposure settings and compositional strategies. Photography assignments will enable students to explore their creativity and develop their technical skills. Access to a DSLR CAMERA is helpful, but not required. Enrollment is limited to 14.

Photography II builds upon the knowledge gained in Photography I. Students will continue learning how to digitally manipulate their images using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. In addition, students will be introduced to the foundations of photography as fine art by learning traditional black and white darkroom photography, shooting with 35mm SLR cameras. Students are expected to be self-motivated and consistently strive to produce new work as they develop their individual creativity, personal vision, and technical skills. Ultimately each individual will produce a strong photography portfolio with an emerging personal vision and participate in a gallery presentation. Access to a functioning FILM CAMERA is encouraged. Access to a DSLR CAMERA is helpful, but not required.

Photography III is specifically designed for highly dedicated photographers who are motivated to work independently to create a body of work with a confident individual vision and artistic voice. Advanced techniques will be introduced and honed, including digital editing, printing, and alternative processes. Students are expected to be self-motivated and consistently strive to produce high quality work as they develop their individual creativity and technical skills. Ultimately each individual will produce a strong photography portfolio with an emerging personal vision and participate in a gallery presentation. Students will also prepare artwork for public exhibition, competition, and publication.
