095.1 Swampscott Community Media I, II and III, Advanced College Prep, Grades 9-12, Semester, 2.50 Credits
Students learn the basics of how to be the videographer, reporter, producer, editor, and designer for various school and community productions. Students will work in Swampscott High School’s state of the art Educational Access TV Studio and develop technical skills for studio and field production, live distribution/webcasting, and channel management. As students learn how to respond to client needs, they will come to understand the role of the Public, Educational and Government access TV channels in town. Past projects include Big Blue News stories, social media recycling videos, school websites, emergency medical response videos, Swampscott Fire Department Recruitment videos, the high school digital sign project, Kohut’s Corner, and live lunchtime talk shows with the Senior Center. Students who successfully complete this class can apply for a paid Video Production Intern position with the Town of Swampscott. Students will need to schedule some work during x-blocks to successfully complete this class.
096.1 Swampscott Community Media II and III, Honors, Grades 10 -12, Semester, 2.50 Credits
Students in this class take on leadership roles on the Swampscott Media team. Students will develop management and communication skills allowing them to coordinate various projects for the school and town. Project examples include Channel Programming, Studio Talk Shows, Digital Sign Management, Social Media Management, and PSA projects for the town. Students will need to devote time outside of class, either during x-blocks or after school, to fulfill the requirements of this class.
