This course introduces students to the basic skills and concepts of cinematography and narrative filmmaking. Working both individually and in teams, students learn the basics of concept development, cinematography, storyboarding, sound recording, and post-production/editing. The course emphasizes the habits of the film artist, prioritizing concept development, hands-on experience, reflections on the film industry, revision of work, in-class analysis of existing films, and professional and responsible approaches to film production. Students are assessed on their efforts to recognize and develop the habits of a film artist, including their performance on the production teams, and their participation at both end of semester film screenings. This class satisfies one of the requirements for Media Arts Lab.
Digital Film Production II
097II.1 Digital Film Production II, College Prep, Grades 9-12, Semester, 2.50 credits
This course is an opportunity for students to experiment with more advanced film work, including lighting, motion graphics and elevated cinematography. Class time is devoted to concept development and technique studies. Students have the option to check out equipment to film after school and on the weekends. All classmates engage in ongoing presentation and critique of works in progress, with the expectation that each student will present a film at the end of the semester. Students are expected to crew on one another's projects to develop production skills and gain on-set experience.
