Beyond French language, culture, and historical content, this course explores media literacy and the art of storytelling. Students will analyze films to deconstruct content, audience, and purpose. By viewing selections from various genres students will learn about France’s contributions to the development of cinema and to recognize a variety of cinematic techniques.
While pre- and post-viewing work and primary class discussions are conducted in English to facilitate high-level analysis and predictive thinking, film viewing in French also serves as a catalyst for developing listening skills in French. For World Language credit, students will complete specific short oral and written assignments grounded in basic French vocabulary and grammar to develop foreign language proficiency.
