098.1 Big Blue News: TV Studio and Field Production I
In Swampscott High School’s own HD TV Studio, students begin their work on Big Blue News as reporters, camera operators, audio engineers, editors, lighting designers, on-camera talent and more. As reporters, students can pitch and create news stories that will become part of our regular BBN broadcasts. All shows are distributed on the Swampscott Big Blue News YouTube Channel and on Swampscott’s Educational Access Cable Channels (Comcast ch8 and Verizon FiOS ch40). Students will be assessed on their professional participation as crew members, hands-on assessment of skills, and the content and technical quality of their finished work. The TV Studio is an exciting and fun environment offering real-world experience. This class satisfies one of the requirements for Media Arts Lab.
Big Blue News: TV Studio and Field Production II & III - Advanced College Prep or Honors, Grades 9-12, Full Year or Semester, 5.0 / 2.50 credits

Students in this course become more versed in the role of producer, director, floor director and technical director for Swampscott High School’s own Big Blue News show. Students oversee the work of the reporters and manage the assembly and distribution of these stories into full BBN episodes. All shows are distributed on the Swampscott Big Blue News YouTube Channel and on Swampscott’s Educational Access Cable Channels (Comcast Ch. 8 and Verizon FiOS Ch. 40). Students will be assessed on their professionalism as leaders in the class, as well as the content and technical quality of their finished work. There will be additional coursework assigned for any student who would like to take this course at the Honors level. This class satisfies one of the requirements for Media Arts Lab.
