In this project we were assigned to create an image out of a squiggle we were handed on a piece of paper. The materials I used were normal pencil and colored pencil to create my art. The second I was handed my squiggle, I saw the beginning of a fish and took the idea and ran with it. At first, I only had the one fish created with the squiggle and no fins or little gill markings; it was really looking like the Goldfish snack. So then I added more fish so there was more to look at around the original fish and I added some bubbles for more detail.
The elements of art I used were mainly lines and color. I added in some texture lines that were a darker or brighter color then the main color of the fish to show the gills. I also added lines in the fins, and tried to make the fins a lighter color than the whole fish itself to emphasize the coloration. I tied in the color of the bubbles to add a pattern to the whole mix to include some more color and something else to look at and or notice other than the fish.
The only idea in my work is that there are just some fish swimming around. For some reason, I was really excited to show people my fish drawing because I thought they were cute and really random. My project could probably be considered ironic because I literally ALWAYS eat Goldfish, (the snack) so me drawing a bunch of fish and being excited to show people probably isn’t a big surprise to anyone. I’m really proud of my bubble pattern I incorporated. I didn’t even do it because one of our main focuses was pattern, so I think it’s funny how I just did it without putting a lot of thought into why I was doing it. I really didn’t struggle in this project because I had an idea that I stuck to because I enjoyed it.
