Charcoal Drawing

Sphere/Value Scale

Artist Statement

For this project, we were first assigned to create a sphere and value scale to get us familiar using charcoal. We were assigned to choose a photograph and turn that into a drawing using charcoal. The materials I used were charcoal and white charcoal. I first gave myself a slight outline of my image, then proceeded using charcoal.

The elements of art I used to the best of my ability were, value and I tried to include texture using the white charcoal which didn't go very well.

I think it's safe to say I can't use charcoal. I don't like how my drawing came out at all because I don't understand how to use charcoal to begin with, and this drawing really proves it. The black wouldn't fully rub out, and then it would just keep messing up sections I already did; I mean, look at those "flowers." I would definitely choose a landscape photograph if I were to do this project again because wow, I don't like charcoal and it shows that I can't use it.
