Anxiety
Fine-Liner Pens & Colored Pencils
9" x 7"
For this project, we were assigned to create an editorial cartoon with a certain message that we wanted to be heard. Immediately I wanted to do something related to mental health and mental illness, specifically anxiety itself.
The materials I used were fine-liner pens and colored pencils. I wanted to outline everything in different colors, and then fill everything in lightly with colored pencils; I wasn't feeling a full-on black outline.
The process I went through creating my work was, as I previously stated, I wanted to base my message on mental health/mental illness, specifically anxiety itself. I created a bunch of thought bubbles including sayings related to overthinking/overwhelming thoughts, showed piled on top of a person to show that the thoughts can feel like they are suffocating you almost. I then included a speech bubble saying "I'm ok" along with text at the bottom saying "check-in with the people you care about," in efforts to bring awareness to the fact that just because someone says they're doing alright doesn't necessarily mean that they are. I made the background color green because green is the mental health awareness ribbon color.
