Dear Samakee Community,

As I walked around school this week, I was delighted to see the playground, classrooms and farm filled with happy, busy children. The energy was wonderful and a testament to the engaging learning happening in every corner of our school.

What truly stood out, however, was our key value: kindness! The exceptional kindness our students show to their friends is wonderful to see.

I observed many beautiful moments: a student patiently helping a younger child put on their shoe, groups spontaneously including a classmate who was standing alone, and words of encouragement to a younger child on the kingpin court during an exciting game. These weren't big public displays, but small, daily acts of empathy that show the true nature of our students!

Parent Consultations Scheduled for the 14th and 16th of October

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Parent Consultations, which are scheduled for the week after next.

About the Consultations

When: The consultations will take place in the afternoon and early evening of the 14th and 16th of October
How: You can choose between a face-to-face meeting here at school, or an online meeting via video call.
Who: All parents and carers are encouraged to attend.
Why: These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, achievements, and any concerns you may have with their class teacher.

Select your preferred day, time, and meeting format (in-person or online).
If you are unable to access the booking system, contact the school office by phone or email for assistance.

Public Speaking Camp For Kids

This one-day camp will be held on Saturday the 1st of November from 9 am to 4 pm at St. Andrews Samakee with lunch and snack breaks included. This will be a joint event with students aged 10-15 from outside our school too. The workshop will be conducted by Mr. Chris Wright, a highly experienced teacher, trainer, motivational speaker, mindset coach, writer TV host and producer who happens to be a parent of two of our students.

The camp / workshop will be conducted in two formats. We will have various types of speeches on stage in front of others and we will have public speaking walk rally bases where the participants have to take part in team based communication activities such as breaking the ice with new people, storytelling, interviewing, pitching products & services.

We will have little money prizes for team winners and individual winners to show them that if they speak well in public, they will receive good things back from the public. The event will be fun but also a little serious in some parts.

Participants have to bring a laptop / tablet as they will have to present with Canva / Google Slides too.

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

EYFS - Exploring Fish Farms!

As part of the whole school Humanities Day, the EYFS class spent the week exploring different aspects of sustainability based on the book, focusing on concepts like Salt Farms, Roof Gardens, and Fish Farms.

During the discussion on fish farms, the children engaged in a close study of different types of fish. They showed great curiosity as they learned about fish anatomy, identifying body parts and talking about how fish use their tails and fins to swim. This activity helped to build vocabulary and develop their understanding of the living world within the context of sustainable food sources.

Year 2 - Frog Life Cycle Explorers!

The Year 2 scientists set off on an exciting adventure into the school garden to learn about the life cycle of frogs and toads! We found tree frogs hiding in tree trunks and searched the mini ponds to carefully collect our very own tadpoles. Back in class, we researched the habitat of frogs and toads to design a special tadpole tank. Over the coming weeks, we will observe the incredible transformation from tadpole → froglet → frog before releasing them back into their natural home. The children are buzzing with curiosity as they watch science come to life before their eyes – what an amazing way to learn about lifecycles and caring for nature!

Year 3 - Soil Scientists

The children carried out an investigation to test the permeability of different types of soil. They carefully poured water through samples such as sand, clay, and garden soil, observing how quickly (or slowly!) the water drained through. The class discussed how soil composition affects permeability and why this is important for plants, farming, and even building houses. The children worked like real scientists: making predictions, recording results, and drawing conclusions from their findings. It was a fantastic, hands-on way to explore how the world beneath our feet works!

Inktober

This October all students are invited to join this international drawing campaign. Using the headings below, create a drawing using either pencil or ink that represents the word for each day. You can have a go at as many as you want or just the one. Bring your work to school on the relevant day to put up on our art board. I look forward to seeing your creations!

Artist of the Week

Artist of the week goes to a year 6 student who has worked with great focus and creativity in creating some wonderful block prints and stenciling. He has used the theme of Romero Britto and used it very well to influence his outcomes. Well done!

Badminton Success

Well done to one of Year 6 students for his successes in his recent U12 Badminton competition!

Swimming Success

Congratulations to our Samakee Stingers for their success at the Bkk Prep Puppy Cup last weekend. Lots of fin and lots of new Personal best times!
