International Day 2026: A Celebration of Global Unity

What an extraordinary day at St Andrews Samakee! Our International Day on the 1st of May 2026 brought the world to our school once again, and we couldn't be prouder of our vibrant community.

We are immensely grateful to our creative and dedicated parents, grandparents and carers whose time, energy and enthusiasm made this day truly spectacular. Your commitment to our children's learning continues to inspire us all.

The school came alive with colourful traditional costumes, delicious cuisine from around the globe, and engaging hands-on activities. Our children embarked on an exciting journey to 9 remarkable countries, and it was wonderful to witness their curiosity ignite as they explored diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives.

We hope this immersive experience has sparked a lifelong passion for exploring the rich tapestry of people and cultures that make up our world. Days like these help our children develop the understanding, respect and appreciation they need to thrive in our interconnected global community.

International Day

New Arrivals on the Samakee Farm!

We are delighted to share some exciting news from our school farm. We now have two adorable miniature baby goats, donated by a very kind and generous Samakee family! Thank you!

These new additions have already brought lots of joy to our students, and they are a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about caring for animals in a hands-on way.

Fundraising Appeal Update: A Life-Changing Success

We are writing with the most wonderful news to share with our St Andrews Samakee community.

In April, we reached out to you with an appeal to support one of our students who needed essential surgery to improve her mobility and quality of life. The response from our families was nothing short of extraordinary. We are profoundly grateful to everyone who donated – your compassion and generosity have truly transformed a young person's life.

A successful outcome

We are delighted to report that the operation took place last Friday and was a complete success. Our student is now recovering well and is being cared for at school by a dedicated full-time nurse who is supporting all her medical needs during this important recovery period.

She is happy, comfortable and in excellent spirits. The daily visits from her friends and teachers have brought her tremendous joy, and she has asked us to pass on her heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this possible. The care and concern shown by our school community has meant the world to her and her family.

The recovery journey ahead

The convalescent period will be approximately two months, during which time she will need to avoid putting any weight on her leg. Once the cast and metal rods are removed, she will begin physiotherapy to help rebuild her strength and mobility.

All funds raised through your generous donations will continue to support her throughout this journey, covering:

Ongoing professional nursing care
Meals during her recovery
Physiotherapy sessions once the cast is removed
Any additional medical support needed

We know many of you will want to send your best wishes during her recovery. If your family would like to send a card or message of support, please drop these off at the school office, and we will make sure she receives them. These messages of encouragement will mean so much to her during the weeks ahead.

A community that cares

This appeal has demonstrated the very best of our St Andrews Samakee community. When one of our students needed help, you responded with open hearts and extraordinary kindness. You have not only funded a medical procedure – you have given a young person the opportunity to participate more fully in school life, to build her confidence, and to look forward to a brighter future.

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

Year 1 - Inspired by Nature, Driven by Choice

Following the children’s interests, we introduced a selection of beautiful flowers to inspire their artwork. Using a range of media including pencils, markers, watercolours and block paints, children were free to choose what to use and how to express their ideas.

By making their own creative decisions, each child explored their individuality, resulting in artwork that is truly unique.

At Samakee, we celebrate creativity, independence and the joy of learning through meaningful experiences.

Year 3 - Myth Makers

Year 3 explored the “Four Secret Ingredients” of a myth through hands-on activities, investigating clues from the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

This helped deepen their understanding of storytelling and will inspire their own Greek myths. Great detective work and creativity from everyone!

Year 6 - Spanish Presentations

Our Year 6 students confidently presented their Spanish learning to parents, showcasing traditional dishes from different Latin American countries. They explained the ingredients, how the dishes are made, and even offered tastings, all in Spanish!

We are very proud of their effort, confidence, and language skills. Keep up the fantastic work!

Year 7/8 - Silk Road Adventure

This week our Year 7 and Year 8 geographers stepped out of their textbooks and onto the ancient Silk Road as we transformed the classroom floor into an interactive map of Central Asia. Organised into competing merchant caravans, the students had to navigate a map stretching from the gates of Chang'An (Xi’an) to the bazaars of Venice. From the windswept Mongolian Plateau in the north to the treacherous 'rain shadow' of the Taklamakan Desert, students had to make strategic decisions: do they risk the 'North Road' and face Mongol bandits on the open Steppe, or brave the grueling heat and water scarcity of the south? By calculating 'Terrain Tariffs,' and using Atlases to navigate the high-altitude 'Roof of the world' (the Pamir Mountains), the students gained an understanding of how physical geography dictates human history, trade, and survival.

Awards & Achievements

Artist of the week

Artist of the Week goes to a Year 6 student who has made excellent progress this year. He consistently approaches his work with a positive “give it a go” attitude and demonstrates strong resilience in Art. Recently, he has been working on his exhibition piece, which I am very much looking forward to seeing at the exhibition. Well done!

Badminton Success

Well done to one of our Year 6 students who came runner up in his latest Badminton Adventure. Noteworthy is that he was competing in the age up! Congratulations!

Tennis Success

Well done to one of our Year 6 students who reached the last 16 in his recent Lawn Tennis Association Championships. Significant improvement both tactically, physically and mentally during this competition. Congratulations!

Safeguarding Spotlight: Attendance & Safety

Keeping our children safe is a partnership between school and home. This week's focus:

Safe Journeys to School - Some of our children travel with drivers and nannies, please remind them about seatbelt safety and appropriate behaviour in vehicles. Ensure drivers know our drop-off and pick-up procedures and have emergency contact numbers.
Punctuality Supports Learning - Regular, on-time attendance is crucial for your child's learning and wellbeing. Please ensure that you, your driver and nanny know school start times and plan journeys to avoid traffic delays. Persistent lateness disrupts learning and can be a safeguarding indicator.
Supervision During Drop-off/Pick-up - Please ensure your child is supervised by you, their driver or nanny until they enter school premises and are collected promptly at dismissal. Children should not be left unsupervised in vehicles or the school garden.
