Little Learners is Starting Soon!
We look forward to welcoming a new class of Little Learners to Samakee next week!
This year, our Little Learners program has an exciting new addition. While the sessions will continue to meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. during term time, we've added a third session. You and your toddler can now join us on Friday mornings at the pool for a fun experience exploring our 12-meter pool together.
Our group encourages one adult to join us with their under-twos, mum or dad, a grandparent, nanny, or other carer for an enjoyable and stimulating morning of activities.
In the outdoors, many intriguing resources are readily available and open-ended so that little children can use and combine them in a variety of exciting ways. Uninterrupted time to play and explore is crucial for toddlers. They have plenty of time at school to play with resources that interest them and feel proud of their accomplishments. Some favourite toddler activities are the Water World, the tricycles, the sand pit, and the climbing equipment.
Indoors, there are endless opportunities for children to engage in new experiences and show their infinite fascination and curiosity, such as painting with a brush or with their hands, sensory experimentation with sand, spaghetti, or playdough, stacking blocks, making music with Ms Zukhra, or simply wandering as they watch other children play!
Routines that prompt toddlers to look after themselves are encouraged, such as snack time, when the Little Learners wash their hands, select a plate and mug, help themselves to different foods they like, and put away their things when they have finished.
Some ECAs This Week ...
Thank you to all the children who participated in their chosen ECAs this week. We hope they've discovered activities they enjoy while gaining new skills and creating happy memories throughout the term.
EYFS - Phonics
We began the week with Miss Anushka pretending to be a farmer — but oh no, the farmer had a big sneeze and all the things in her basket fell out… and every single one started with the letter a! The children helped collect them, say their names, and practise writing the sound.
To reinforce our new sound, we read two wonderful books: “The Big Sneeze” and “Alan’s Big Scary Teeth.” After enjoying the stories, the children created drawings inspired by them, hiding and writing the letter a inside their pictures.
It’s been such a fun and engaging start to our phonics journey, full of giggles, stories, and creativity!
Year 3 - Enrichment
Collaboration and creativity have been bubbling in our Enrichment sessions where some of the children have been taking part in some different challenges! From designing a container to travel down a zip line and a boat that can float on water, we have seen some great problem solving, designing and team building skills.
Year 5 - Science and Topic
In Year 5 we are so excited to learn more about the Earth in our Science and Topic lessons! In Science, the children learned about the different planets, including what they are made of, their size, their temperature and the number of moons they have. Afterwards, the children used the Chromebook to research more and create a fact page about a planet of their choice. In Topic, the children enjoyed learning about volcanoes and made a volcano chatterbox!
Year 6 - Maths
Year 6 students were working on a project called ‘thousands and millions’. Students were working in 2s and 3s to answer real life questions such as
‘Do human beings live for as long as a million hours?’
‘If you have been alive for a million seconds, how many birthdays have you had?
’Could you fit the population of London into one hundred thousand double-decker buses?’
‘Could you run one thousand metres in one minute?’
Upper School - Sports Leadership
Year 7/8 have been busy working on their Sports Leadership course. This past 2 weeks have been centred on creating a presentation about Health and Wellbeing. 3 students presented their work in assembly this week and other members of the group presented in class. Well done!
Football Success
Congratulations to our Year 4 students who won their football match last Sunday at the AKA Invitation Cup!
