The Unified Key Mapping Service (UKMS) is a service provided with SAP Netweaver 2004s as a general value mapping tool. It originated in MDM development. The service is based on ABAP coding, with the a range of APIs from ABAP OO to RFC enabled function modules, Java APIs, and XSLT.

Yes, It can be used from mapping in SAP PI. However, there is no prepared connection to SAP PI and no general recommendation by SAP to use this technique as an alternative to value mapping in PI, even though some project have use this solution instead of value mapping replication.
