Do you believe in miracle? Some may believe it did exist in the past but not longer in modern day. Some may not even believe there is miracles at all in this 'hard to deal with' life. However, I do believe miracles happen around us every day, if we just have take some time to ponder over it.
Several weeks before, we got the news about the devastating earth quake which rumbled Haiti. It was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The earthquake struck in the most populated area of the country at 16:53 local time on Tuesday, 12 January 2010, at a depth of 13 km. The International Red Cross announced that as many as 3 million people had been affected by the quake. On 28 January the Haitian government gave a confirmed death toll of 170,000, with many more thousands dead in the rubble and outside the capital, and not including unreported bodies buried by relatives.Haitian authorities also estimated that 250,000 people sustained injuries, and as many as one million Haitians were left homeless. What a tragedy in this period of time hard to deal with!
Haiti's government called off search-and-rescue efforts four days earlier, yet rescuers found a Haitian teenager alive Wednesday, surviving against all odds after being trapped in the rubble for 15 days. She was pulled alive from under a collapsed house in Port-au-Prince on Wednesday, 15 days after Haiti's devastating earthquake.
She was severely dehydrated and had a leg injury but was conscious when she was dragged out of the rubble by French and Haitian rescuers. "I don't know how she happened to resist that long. It's a miracle," said rescue worker J.P. Malaganne, adding that the girl, named Darline, was happy, shocked and crying.
Wasn't that a miracle in modern time? How long can a man survive without food? Several weeks probably. Without drinks? Several days probably. And this girl managed to survive for 15 days under the rubble, without or with very very limited stock of food and drink. Unbelievable? Believe it!
Life is beautiful! Let's make it meaningful and colorful!
